I've been experiencing high latency spikes now for about a year on my line, but I've recently got back into gaming more and in turn it's annoying me a lot more.
I mostly play Counter-Strike Global Offensive and run a net graph to keep an eye on latency. I generally get around 40-50ms on servers, but every game, without fail - I will experience lag spikes that make it unplayable for a few seconds.
The spikes tend to occur about once every 2-3 minutes and last about 5-10 seconds. The ping will suddenly go from 40-50ms to 150-300ms, then go back to about 90ms, then back up to 300ms and then back to normal. It seems to always follow that pattern of increase, slight decrease and then increase again - before settling down.
I've tried a different ISP account and managed to rule out it being an ISP issue.
I've run several ping tests and tracerts to see if the problem can be picked up there, and I did notice some occasional spiking in the ping tests where it went from 35ms -> 140ms for a second or two, but nothing that substantial.
I'm on awired 4mb Telkom connection and my SNR is 22dB.
In the past I had experienced problems with my line several times that required Telkom maintenance. I also a few years ago needed Telkom to downgrade my line because of instability issues causing it to drop.
Any ideas or suggestions for further troubleshooting? Considering downgrading to 2mb to see if it will solve the issue - as line stability is at the top of my suspect list at the moment.
