Pretty much the same... except my local is about 20KB/s on average.
Upload Locally is farking outstanding and the same internationally.
Their bandwidth throttling doesnt seem to mind uploading to international
places...

I am glad you get 500Kb on a downlaod before it caps to 4.7... I usually get about 250KB before sentechs hands squeeze the pipe.

For me it works ok in the sun, but signal dies with the rain

Strangly, showers seems to improve my signal ,but rain and heavy storm bring along by dark clouds makes signal very unstable (up and down ) often unusable and causes disconnections.

odd... my signal seems stable even through hardcore electric storms... But then I am above the trees...

***dam!! Has anyone seen my international Bandwidth... it seemed to go missing in October....

My connection has been up on Sentech since 7 January 2005... with zero disconnections at all, even through the storms. It's a new record :) Longest, cheapest internet connection ever for me... pity about the slower than dialup though.

i used skype for the first time last night speaking to a mate in the UK and it was Flawless so I was quiet impressed. Imagine if I had readl broad band. Then I could surf and chat at the same time.

hrmm... have I ever mentioned that Sentech Suck?

International download speed seems to have improve to 5.6 KB /sec after 500 KB

doing some more testing .................

or - "yes sir, your BMW can now do a steady 100km in a 120km zone for the first 5km"

maybe when I downloaded the Barcadi cat advert from the off-topic forum ,the contention was very low.the file is aslo not big only 2MB.

it indeed was faster.

1. For the n-th time, the intl cap/throttle has absolutely nothing to do with contention ratios !
2. the file in my wget example earlier is just under 2MB
3. Maybe you got it via local cache ?

Wouldn't it be great if Sentech would lift the international bandwidth limiting for one day in the month as a way of demonstrating to the MW users the capability of the modem/connection.....or even better still give everyone a 512k connection for a few hours at some time or other, or would that really be expecting too much

That would be an admission of guilt on their part - that they have been strangling the bandwidth, and that contention is not the cause of the upper limit to slow international speeds.

My feeling is that the international capping is being done with a little help from the international bandwidth provider from HELL

just for the record - i've started skyping too...

while i downloaded at 14kbps and uploaded at 15kbps (NON STOP), i had a conference call with skype to FIVE other people for about 3 hours.

They heard me perfectly, i heard them perfectly, no problems at all.
they were in ct, pta, UK & jhb.

Oh and i've been connected non stop with sentech now for: 13d 23h 26m 6s

*shrug* maybe the rest of you who claim to have these problems have perhaps pissed off telkom at some stage and now they're sending agents to try and make your lives hell wherever you have internet connectivity.
