Latest scam

The parents just got a call from a "Lance" guy from 0213003322. Tells them that he is from Megabytes Solutions and that he is their service provider and that their computer is giving off critical errors. He tells them to open a command prompt and basically gets the windows event log to pop up.. telling them that there is a virus and there is the proof.

he then tells them to go to www.ammyy.com and download an administrator tool so he can fix it for them!

luckily they told him to get lost but can you imagine how many other people will get caught by this! Obviously if you call the number.. its not in service..

a quick google search shows that this is quite a common scam overseas...

anyway.. just a heads up

my friend got one like that through skype. She phoned me to see if I ever got one and I told her it's a scam.

these guys will try anything it seems.

rule of thumb, unless you ask someone to look at your PC tell them to go get stuffed if you get an unexpected call, email, sms, IM...

Yeah, I posted this same thing on the myBB forums about 3 weeks ago, my in-laws had these MegaBytes idiots phone them too on their house phone. Luckily they are a bit clued up and have a mac, so sucks to megabytes

Lol, I would let the guy try to help me troubleshoot why I can't install the application for a few hours. Then I'll tell him that I use Linux

yep my aunt had the samething. google ammyy and check the top 10 results. top 2 = ammyy website, the rest are "AMMYY SCAM".
These guys are a massive scam firm.
