Congratulations ! It is our pleasure to notify you that your sim number has won the sum R175,000 from NOKIA YEARLY PROMOTION. Your pin is T.v2, contact your claim agent Mr.Vincent Or Lerato on this 0788415430 and make sure your pin is activated by your claim agent before transfer.

PLEASE DO NOT FALL FOR THIS ONE PEEPS

I got one from HEINEKENUK, telling me that Iv'e won GBP 750 000, but that I need to send them my phone number and email address. Why would they need my phone number if they've just sent me a sms? Duh!

Yes if you phone they remove R180 from your airtim, and NO I did not phone but someone on the nokia forum from south africa did.

The number you phone, is one premium call rates....so you pay and they collect from the phone company.

I wasn't aware that a number like 0788415430 could be premium rates, I thought they had to be those 37555 type numbers.

I don't think they gonna tell you that, that's why it's called a SCAM. :p

It works the same way as the phone sex numbers the longer they keep you on the line the more you pay

Sorry, I dont think im explaining myself clearly here. I am asking if a number that looks like a regular cell phone number can be charged at premium rates- a number such as 082 123 4567. As far as I was aware, all premium rate numbers only had 5 digits eg 37555
is this not correct?

If it's a scam and the criminals set up the numbers that you gonna phone, they can pretty much use any number they like.

This gang in England set up premium numbers two months ago, charging £10 (R109) a minute!

I've received this message yesterday: "(NOKIA) You have won the sum of R175,000 in NOKIA DROR with Ref. NO: XXXXXXX, pls contact mrs joy on: 0733372317 to receive your (I quote) 'price'".

If they cannot even spell prize correctly, how in the world can this be legit. :D

New Scam/Spam I received today on my mobile:

RICASA:-)Congratulations!!Your MobileNo was Selected in RICA YEARLY PROMO You have Won R950,000*Plus Hp LAPTOP Call 0784829161 forClaims with REFS/No:R5CK:

Eish.... no wonder I ran out of airtime and never got my 'price'.....

EDIT: On a serious note, I think we will be surprised to find out how many people actually fall for this. I then have one family member who wanted to log into the 'ABSA' online banking because of the SARS rebate (SCAM). I asked him whether he had an ABSA account and he said no, he's with Nedbank........ I rest my case.....
