A company ordered Telkom ADSL with the freebie modem (4 port switch included)
They had problems, and I added them to my client list.
My summary of the modem:
In general not too shabby.
But compared to the Netgear DG834 it is difficult to setup.
For the Netgear modem one does not need much knowledge to setup a reasonably safe NATTING ADSL connection.
The use of the Telkom modem is not as intuitive and user friendly. For the Netgear modem, one needs the manual to find the default IP-Address, username and password, and you are going.
I needed the manual for the Telkom modem (PDF on CD) open as I went step-by-step in setting it up.
It is indeed a major improvement on the previous modem, but Telkom still has a long way to go.
My advice: If you have time and patience and can risk insecurities, you may consider the Telkom modem. Else go for something decent like Netgear's stuff.
