Launching a magnet link from terminal (Ubuntu)

Hi,

My default handler for magnet links is uTorrent.

With .torrent files you can just use terminal to fetch the file and place it in a folder, where uTorrent will start downloading it automatically.

I am trying to do the same with magnets, and can use a script or terminal command to do this.
ie. Fetch magnet?=374748829284 from website.org/11232.html, and then start downloading in uTorrent automatically.

Perhaps uTorrent has a sub-app for command line control or something?
I am using Ubuntu, but would also like to perform this in Mac OS X if possible.

Note: If you are here to complain about piracy etc, please leave, because I am using this to obtain legal files.

With magnet links, you need to save the link location, then pass that to your torrent software to download the torrent.

I think he knows that, he wants to launch it from terminal/command prompt.

Have you played around with the WEB UI? There is this a command line tool for remoting to it.. http://code.google.com/p/cutorrent/

I use it to check my download when away from the pc..

Under Linux, there is a program(requires Python) called 'utwhisper' which gives you access to utserver from the command line. You can try it's '--addurl' function but I can NOT confirm that it supports magnet links(having hard drive problems on Ubuntu pc, will try as soon as I get it fixed).

Looking to use utserver specifically so not going to look at alternative apps.
