Law & Order - THE END

There are still two other Law and Orders + L&O los angeles will replace it. I personally don't get how anyone can keep watching this show. Having seen two seasons I just couldn't take another murder that happens in exactly the same format every single episode with characters who can be easily replaced (and no one honestly notices).

Its gonna be running for a long time to come in any case. Simply luv

But don't you all ever get bored of the same concept over and over again? Then again I guess people can watch soccer and cricket over and over and not get bored there's at least more variety in L&O than that.

95% of all movies follow the same format- when I was studying script writing I found a book that teaches you the "scripting secrets" used in most hollywood movies, it was so detailed that it literally said in scene 4.1 (numbers pulled out my head) the love interest must be introduced, in scene x the antagonist... this is how to build tension, this is how to generate sympathy- let the protagonist interact with a child etc etc etc.

All that to say that yes L&O is the same thing over and over again, but so is survivor, smallville, judge judy and opera.... but it works....

I love L&O, except for the one with that detective that looks like monk- the one that always gets in peoples faces... he irritates the living daylights out of me.

I've studied script writing too, a movie is different from television. L&O very strictly sticks to its format, you can count it down on a clock but if you enjoy it then I imagine you would be sad. But 20 years is a long time in television so you can't say it's tragic or unexpected.

I'm not sad about the end of this show ... it's just so boring. But I can understand some people being dissapointed ... besides there is L&O SV.

What some people find boring others find entertaining. I suspect the majority of stuff I enjoy you will find boring. Examples: Morse, Lewis, Midsomer Murders, Foyle's War, Inspector Lynley Mysteries, Mystery Woman, Murder 101, Diagnosis Murder, Rebus, House, South Park, Fringe, BoB.

Things like Lost, 24 etc simply don't interest me, reality tv even less so.

Appart from Diagnosis Murder on your list I think you have great taste. Though I would add Agatha Christies Poirot and marple to that list too.

Some great shows listed.

The original Law and Order from the '90s with Jerry Orbach is the best. Fantastic cast, excellent scripts , nothing else comes close.

I suppose most of us do like the formulas. Ponder's list included House which I do love even though it's highly formulaic (and I don't understand what they're saying half the time). Perhaps there's something comforting about the formula, unlike 24 or similar shows where half the cast could be dead in one episode shows like L&O and House provide some stability.

Dunno how I managed to leave out Poirot, really enjoy it. Also liked the Sherlock Holmes that was on tv a while back.

I do not have the attention span to watch things like 24 and keep following it week after week. I prefer the story to come to an end after each episode and not a continuance. Not to mention the totally ridiculous plot twists where everyone from the president, cia etc are involved with the bad guys, it's just to far out there. I watched the first season of 24 but lost interest after that.

I think I like House for the dudes dry wit/sarcasm, his personality gives me a warm fuzzy feeling :D

I have not watched TV for yonks so no loss to me. Anyone seen the Chris Mortenson "Crash Courses 1 - 19" on Youtube? Interesting Zeitgeisty stuff.

Law and order: special victim unit is by far my favorite and the only show i ever watched. I currently watch on sabc 3 at 10pm on weekdays

.

If you people like some of the shows mentioned in this thread then have a look at The 39 Steps, it's not a series but made for tv feature length film. I enjoyed it ;)
