He did half the work, deserves half the pay. The case is still pending I presume. Once the hearing is over he should get his full fee. Had the case be postponed to the following week, he would not have charged extra.

It's a stupid case; that contravention of a restraining order case. I'm not allowed to have alcohol in my house by court order. So it's a case between me and the prosecutor only. There's no plaintiff.

He said he's going to ask the prosecutor to withdraw the case based on Covid restrictions (ironically also the cause that the case was postponed) because curfew started at 9 and it was at 10 that my almost ex called the police without me knowing because I didn't know she was home. I was sitting with a beer when the police came.

So he was going to use a technicality.
 
All lawyers has a rate sheet. You need to ask on the initial consultation which isn't charged. You usually pay by the hour, remember you retained said lawyer's service.

I did ask. He told me what his fees were. We met at his house.

Did he provide you with the rate sheet? Every time I have used legal services this was in place, and my estimations appropriately done. Though I have never been charged, so I don't know your predicament.

You jest, he offered me a few dinks, but didn't have beer so we drank gin. I actually got really drunk with him and ended up losing the money I had so I had to walk home (went there with Uber). That's from Durbanville to Kraaifontein.

This guy is a friend of a friend, so it was really a casual meeting at his house. There wasn't any paperwork involved.

Hectic, did your wife call the cops? o_O
I guess if he found a technicality that will guarantee to help you it’s a fair deal.
I would still try to fight his further fee once he gets you off the hook.

A contract doesn't need to be paperwork. Agreements can be verbal, or in any other writing, so best to insist on the particulars next time.

Friends are cool, but personal and delicate matters requires your own resources to be nice about it.

Oh, i swear every instance is an event with you. So you got him drunk but didn't take advantage of him? looks like he played you.

She was bitter because I filed for divorce. So it was more an act of revenge (I think). I'm saying it's a stupid case because all it did was make me lose out on a day's pay and she wasn't working so every cent helped. I didn't invoice my company for the day because I was locked up and couldn't work.

Now she's not allowed to withdraw the case itself, she is only allowed to withdraw the restraining order. She did not know this at the time and told me that she only did it to scare me so that I stop wasting money.

One of my friends told me the other day that whenever he's with me, something always happens and he concluded that I'm jinxed. :ROFL:
