LCD Choice for DSTV

Hi Guys

I just bought a Sony Bravia 40EX400. Pretty good price and it comes with a dvd player.

It had good picture in the store and I think the other stores showing the different TV's had them connected via an aerial or something because when they hooked it up to the hdmi, it looked a lot better and was more fluid.

I'll set it up today and see how it goes but if I'm not happy I can always return it within 7 days.

Any tips on settings etc and what I must do to get a great picture?

Please let us know how it is. Especially for sport. I would love the 32EX500 with 100hz but it seems scarce/not available, and not sure about the price. 32EX400 is very well priced.

At the moment I'm looking at EX400 vs. Samsung 5 series.

Really a pity there aren't any 32" plasmas...

I'll let you know in the morning.

I had a look at some plasma's as well but the reflection is really irritating, I thought it wouldn't bother me but it did so I'm glad they had the Sony LCD.

Hi guys,

I had a look at the EX500 over the weekend, though in 46", they had a dstv HD feed and the picture looked great. I asked the salesman to swith to a normal SD channel and the picture was okayish. I havnt quite have the chance to compare same category lcd vs led next to each other on a normal SD feed.

I see the online store http://www.buy1.co.za has the tv sets mentioned here. Just out of interest sake, has anyone dealt with them or maybe have any experiences to share? I still feel i would have more peace of mind buying from a brick and mortar shop where i can physically go back to. But the online shops prices are def better.

Hi dlc

DSTV on HD looks amazing on the 40ex400 so it must look even better on the ex500 but SD DSTV doesn't look to bad.

How did they have the TV connected to the decoder as well? Some of the places I checked had it connected via a cheap connection and not hdmi. You can see the difference when its on hdmi

The only reason I bought the TV froma store and not Pinnacle or online was that I can take it back within 7 days if I am not happy with it and they will refund me so no real loss. I doubt online stores would do this.

Geez i have no idea..They had several lcd's hooked up to the same dstv feed. I'm probably going there next week again, will ask for some details.

Every av shop i go into, their stock is very low. The tv sets flew out the door with the world cup. Now i have to wait for something decent to come in.

get a Samsung LED. I have one and the picture is flawless, it is probably the thinnest screen out and you'll never notice it lagging or blurring. Perfect quality, a bit more pricey but worth every cent.

Yeah i'm leaning to one of those. I had a look at a 40" C5000 LED yesterday and must say the image looks really amazing. I will try and get the 6200 though because of the 100hz motion rate. The only thing causing some doubt atm is that i can get a 46" 6 Series (C630) for the same price. Its quite a bit bigger. Something else i would like to see is how the samsung and sony LED's in that price range compete against each other.

Hi Guys

I set everything up last night and I must say that I was totally crazy to not consider an LCD. The picture on the Sony 40EX400 is absolutely great.

Sport is not too bad, I do have an hdpvr hooked up via hdmi and I think that makes a huge difference but I cannot notice motion blur on the normal SD Channels.

The few HD channels that we have are incredible. This is all on default settings, I still need to do a little calibration, maybe with the THX feature on some of the DVD's that have it.

All in all, I will recommend the Sony EX400 series.

Out of all the LCD's I've heard the best reviews of the Sony ones.

I think it must be that Bravia Engine.

The shop had a Samsung as well for a little cheaper but the difference was noticible and it didn't come with the cheap Sony dvd player as well :D

I just wish the dvd player that it came with was an hdmi player that could upscale. but I think its the cheapest dvd player Sony makes :(

The new Sony's are awesome. I love that they have the XMB integrated into them so they are very easy to use and set up. (I have the 32")

Great. Sounds very positive. Please keep us posted if you have any problems with sport.
