Hey all, about to place an order for my pc, and monitor and i use it for graphic design stuff...

Now i read about s-ips and tn and mva...

Now what lcd in s.a besides Apple are s-ips and is it worth it over say a samsung 2232gw?

Thanks

If you doing graphic design you should also look out for the amount of colours the LCD will display.

My LG is one of the few in the price range that displays all 16.7M colours.

thanks man, where do i see that spec? is ur tn or sips? and is it gloss? im trying to write the spec to order stuff and i cant do it without the monitor order and now im stalling haha.

If you're going to be doing graphics and are set on an LCD, you def need an s-ips panel. The tn might impress with faster response, but accurate colour reproduction is what you should be after (s-ips).
tn panels have 6+2 bit colour. The extra two bits are usually dithered in for near or advertised 8 bit.
s-ips have 8 bit colour.

see the expensive 20.1" at the bottom??;) that one is s-ips

unless you're willing to fork-out 10K for an apple cinema :eek:

google "s-ips vs tn" panels and find out more info. There is a list somewhere out-there for all major s-ips panels, will post if i stumble upon it again.

gees thanks guys, the thing is, i see on dells site a sips monitor is like 5000k, and thats where they kik off... i dont have that cash for a screen, is it THAT worth it, compare my crt to a 2232gw samsung lcd, will the colour matching be much worse? thats where im at in the weighing up of things... gonna chek the list now..thanks for finding it...

Unfortunately all lcd's that use S-IPS or MVA are going to cost quite a lot more than your average TN panel.

It depends how heavy you are into the graphic design stuff, because you may just find that one of the Samsungs suit your needs without breaking the bank. If you can afford it, I would highly suggest looking at the BenQ FP241W. That 24" has the best of all worlds :)

Good luck and hope you find a good monitor

Thanks alot for the responses, everyone on here is really helpful. Look, im in my third yr of studying advertising and art direrection. I use Photshop and Illustrator, but a colour is usually slightly off when i take it to print anyway. Its not like i have an in house repro centre...

So Im gonna try go for a samsung and pray hehe. also before i so will lookinto that Benq thank you...

Will let everyone know..

Shot.

You WILL NOT find an S-IPS or an MVA/PVA screen of 20" or higher LESS THAN R4000 on retail in SA.

Other wise if you do then they are almost definitely TN+.

Pity hey. :(

Very few Samsung panel sold in SA are NOT TN+.

I think the last was the 245T or something (stand to be corrected). Look for that. I tink it used an S-PVA.

I want the Lenovo L220x!!! x2 ofcourse. They should bring this thing into the country, but seems we get nothing of any worth here. :P

Update:

Pricecheck shows the 245T STARTING at R 6269.

Sad hey!!! :(

Hehe go to Incredible Corruption.... they made a ballsup with stock I think and are selling the 245T for R4999 :D It's the 2nd time I know of that they have made such a mistake.

Thanks Identity-im thinking of more around the 2600k mark for a screen hehe... So Tn it is for me...
