Hi guys,

Looking to buy a new lcd, looking for accurate colour reproduction, not by graphic designer standards, but vivid rich colours.

Which brand between lets say, LG, Samsung, HP and Acer would you recommend?
(can just reply vote:HP for example)

Or if you have a monitor (19" only) which looks great, which make & model did you purchase?

Thank you.

Dell.
HP.
Phillips.
Samsung.

My preference based on personal experiences with numerous monitors. Of course each brand has its good and bad monitors to though so don't worry too much about brand but rather google for reviews.

I like the samsung F2380. I use it at work. Since it is a PVA panel and not the cheapie TN-film found in most LCDs the colour reproduction is very accurate. PVA is 8 bit colour vs TN-film's 6 bit. Like most Samsungs, they have a 3 year

it does very nicely to reproduce colour accurately enough for business graphics work (brochures, web development), going "photoshop" accurate, you need S-IPS panel, and that is very expensive.

I use a Samsung T260 at home that is just awsome. Before samsung I had Viewsonic monitors, they were excellent, but local support is lacking.

It's all about the panel, if you're looking for real quality. 95% of monitors are TN panel and of similar quality, then a few are PVA or IPS, which you usually pay a bit more for.

+1 Dell panels are outstanding.

It's not the brand that matters. All brands and cheapie ranges and premium ranges.

Just like when someone asks about a car you cant just say honda when there's jazz or civic.

Get a PVA panel.

Whatever brand, try and find what panel is inside (and no, the salesman won't have a clue as to what you're talking about - you're on your own here).

In order of merit:
1. IPS (used to be a joint venture between LG & Phillips, now LG)
2. PVA (used to be a joint venture between Samsung & Sony)
3. TN (everybody else)

When I did research into this, there were only six panel manufacturers, it's prolly increased since then.

Some TN panels are fairly reasonable (especially Samsung), but as has been mentioned, they are 6-bit, with dithering used to make up the other two bits, which tends to give you muddy dark areas.

As said about the panel tech.

However, the best brands would be NEC (probably overall best brand for monitors since they also make 10-12 bit ultra hd medical displays - and one needs the highest standard in those), Eizo, LaCie (quality for non monitors is junk IMO), Dell, Apple, HP, etc then your consumer brands Samsung, Asus, Acer, LG, etc.

What does the MAC use? I've seen those huge LCD screens with the Apple at the back in white damn it looks good, who makes that LCD?
