Hi there

When my old CRT tv gave in I jumped at the oppertunity to buy my self a 47" LCD HDTV.

Now I am no multimedia fundi. How to dI setup this beast. will all the defalut options, super zoom, 16:9 etc etc the pciture is alwys cut somewhere.

Can all this be set manually or am I just stuck with it.
Is it worth it to get someone from these TV/DSTV setup guys to come and do a setup or is it just a money making racket

Seems on thse wide screens all that really happens is that the pciture is "zoom" to a larger scale

Thanks

Andre

Are you talking specifically about the DSTV image?

Need a bit more info on what you looking for.

But, most HD (flat panels) are normal 16:9, with options for 4:3, Zoom 1 / 2 / 3.

4:3, i'm sure you know is how current SD signal is broadcast, so it will be a box in your screen. Zoom 1, will generally zoom your 16:9 closer, but will cut off the sides to a certain extent. The more you zoom, the more will get cut off. I would say, zoom is only important if you have a plasma, or really want to get a closer picture (depends on what you watching):D

Hi all

I have the Philips 47" LCD HDTV and the normal MNet decoder. No PVR etc

Can one then manually increase the size of a 4:3 zoom until it fits the screen or is the size the size

Most DStv content is not widescreen therefore u have 2 options: stretch the image or set your TV to 4:3 or if available 16:9 pillar box that means all wide screen content will be...widescreen and all non widescreen content will have black bars on the side

Go into your DSTv decoder's advanced options - "TV Installation" (passcode 9949). Set the aspect ratio to 16:9 - it defaults to 4:3 every time the power cuts out...

Once that's set, you can cycle through 4 different zoom options (although I swear 2 of them look exactly the same) on the decoder's remote by fist pressing Shift and then TV Guide. You can actually have the picture on the movie channels, and the odd NatGeo/Discovery/History/etc. doccie fill the screen without cutting anything off. Leave your television's setting on 16:9...
