LCD TV

This is commonly said and I totally disagree. I think people just said this to justify getting a 720p display.

Most people sit too far from their TV. It should be like a cinema screen, it should fill your field of view.

Check out the international specialist AVS sites. There is a specific viewing distance applicable to different screen sizes. Granted, its always nice to have bigger, but is it better to watch the screen with your eyes, or moving your head left to right, up and down the whole time. You not watching tennis? Sit front row in a cinema, and back row, and then tell me which is better? Personally, it revolves around 1080i, rather than 1080p, and if you have a decent quality tv, with optimal settings, at the correct viewing distance, you are going to skwint to see 1080p over 720p.

Guess i might go for the LG, still comes with a 3 year warranty (i think) and how much worse can it be compared to the sone and samsung?

Running my PS3 on a 46" Full HD Sinotec LCD that I paid R9999 for at Makro. Great value for money. 5 year on-site warranty also.

Compared the Sinotec to Samsung, Sharp, LG, Philips and Sony and couldn't justify spending an extra R8000 for minor (if any) improvements in picture quality.

46" is awesome when gaming compared to 40 or 42".

is the sinotec 46" still R9999 at makro or is it more now?

it's R11999 at the moment at Makro. The last special was at Game. I've noticed the special at Makro happens quite often so I'd expect the price to go back to R9999 soon...either Makro or Game. My brother bought one at Makro when it was advertised for R11999...he negotitated a price of R10500. The next day it was on special for R9999...he went to Makro and they gave him the difference back.

i would've expected a christmas special at least from makro... maybe in the new year it will drop

nah, on 32" i dont think u wud notice a dif between hd ready n full hd.. Hd ready should be much cheaper

Oh, and it also has 3 year manufacturers warranty. The reds are on special, and if you don't like the red, get vinyl cut to go over the bezel!

so why get a sony then if there is samsungs?

Ok. The place is called Kay Makan. They only in KZN, but i'm sending the LCD to Joburg for R250 through Time Freight. Got excellent prices from Hirschs too. They in Joburg and KZN. Samsung 42B450 plasma for R7400. Samsung LCD 40B530 for R8600. Can't get better prices though, and i still think we getting ripped.

how did u get in touch with them (phone / email / personal visit) ?
Are these the standard prices?

Should dominate your forward field of view, not press your nose up against the plastic. One of the things lost when watching too far away is the visceral effect of motion on screen. Looking at the THX recommendations they're exactly what I'd expect and people, me included (in spite of sitting closer than I find is typical), sit too far away. And at those distances 1080 is visible whether your screen is 29" or 100+". The claim that you need a very large TV to see the difference remains nonsense.

The optimal row in a big cinema like Cavendish Square is generally around E/F. Front is obviously better than back row if those are the two choices, but the front rows are often too low. Most cinemas have the back row too far from the screen making it more like watching an undersized TV, and then I have to wonder why I'm not at home where the popcorn is cheaper.
