LCD wall bracket - Does it matter what you buy?

I am looking for a bracket for my 40" LCD. Found one on Takealot for R209 :wtf:

Whilst I want to save cash buying one, I don't want to buy a POS that ends up falling out the wall. After all you get what you pay for. Does this apply to brackets?

Any advice?

R209 isnt exactly 'dirt cheap' since they like R300 in shops, so hardly think it will fall off the wall if u install it properly.

Its a bracket holding 30kg at most. it doesnt need to hold ur roof up :)

if u dont need to tilt its even cheaper R183!!!

Ok perfect. I always thought they were more in the R500 - R800 range. I been looking at the wrong shops I think.

I've got 2 different mounts at home, one is a massively slimline tiltable one.. set me back like R1k when I bought it..

Then recently I bought one with an arm so I can swivel the TV out and tilt it.. that was R600 at Game.

Basically, the mount will be fine, as long as the bolts holding it onto the wall are decent enough.

Make sure the bracket's rating is sufficient for the weight of the TV. There are 2 sizes available, but as a poster says above, the non-tilt one which consists of a rail you bolt to the wall onto which you hang the bracket which is attached to the TV with the bolts supplied is sufficient

Use 8mm coach bolts with washers and plastic plugs at least 100mm long

I am assuming the bracket will come with the bolts and plugs?

If you are looking for flush or tilt, don't worry too much. If you are looking for swivel, get quality... The cheap ones tend to sag when extended.

I would not use the plastic plugs that comes with the bracket (personally dont trust it) rather get expansion bolts with washers.

But I think the most important is to check the box for maximum weight and use your common sense from there.

Have def experienced this myself.. had a R300 swivel/extend one... and it sagged too much... went and got a better quality one at R600 and its much much better...

I just bought one for R1,300, but was a corner installation (double articulating arms) for 42". What a bitch to install...

That same TV was previously installed against wall on "normal" bracket with 5-15 degrees tilt - cost approx R700 IIRC. R209 sounds cheap.

govan mani. its an ellies bracket. a lot of the installers carry the same bracket and charge you r500 to r700 for it.

I paid R250 and its holding up my 46 inch tv

Put the bracket up this weekend, surprisingly easy despite the vague instruction sheet. Looks lekker!
