Hi

I have 2 questions....

* my couch is about 2.5m from the tv, with 32" be too small?

If not....

* Is the LG 32LD550 good? Can we use the "netcast" features in SA and watch you tube and stuff on the tv?
Compared to the Samsung 32C530 and Sony 32EX400 what would be the best option

The LG is 100HZ while the others are 50HZ
Both FULL HD
LG has wirless

I will be using the tv for my PS3 and normal tv both HD and SD

32" would work at that distance, a 40" ideal distance is 3 meters or so, you could try it out and see what happens. I've got a 42" at around 2.9 meters from my couch and it works decently but when I did have a 32" it was fine at that distance.

Firstly I would stick with Samsung as they are the leaders in TV.

For a similar price you could get a 42" plasma - Samsung PS42C430 at around R5800. 10" extra goodness, and better SD TV picture quality. Way better. Also deeper blacks and faster response time than the LCDs. About 5 forumites bought one last month alone. These are the tried/tested/trusted 42" plasmas.

Remember 99% of PS3 games are HD/720p/less. Also, HD PVR is 720p. So you may not need full HD/1080p.

Best bet is going to the store to compare.

but plasma is old tech and its more energy hungry and its got IR

Dude seriously? Do you see the initialisim LCD and your brain automatically goes, troll my plasma, must propagate my plasma. Do you work for Samsung, do you get commission for every plasma sold? He asked for information on the LCD's no where did he mention plasma.
Nadeem yes and no to all of those, it is older tech, it does use slightly more power then LCD's and yes it does still suffer from IR but after 100 hours of watching at lower contrasts and keeping yourself aware of this possibility you should be fine, but there are other things to look at, this particular plasma is only 1024x768, not to be used for any PC work, really not advisable to use for consoles due to the IR and possible motion judder from some posters comments. Postman Pot is the resident punter of plasma, in particular this model it seems he has ulterior motives. Your best bet is to honestly go in store and hook up your console and see. Also if possible stand about 2.5 meter from the TV's and see the differences, remember most of the time though the stores haven't calibrated their TV's so LCDs can look garishly overbright while Plasmas can look duller.

Ag nee.

You didn't say that...

Here comes another 13page thread... :)

ok my bad

All I wanted to know is which is the best from the above mentioned
And does any1 own the LG and is the wireless worth while having?
Does it work in SA

No I was only joking. There has been a huge debate regarding LCD vs Plasma...

Ya I see that
I cant seem to get a proper reply as to which TV is better
Like Lupus said its hard to see in the store with different set ups
I noticed the Sony looks duller but more crisp and the Samsungs looks deeper in colous but smugey

I didnt see the LG on but 100Hz true motion and wireless tv makes me consider it
But this makes it tough, the defualt setting is different for each so its hard to compare even side by side

LCD is also old tech if you go back to the date came out. Techs get improved on constantly.

Fact is, plasma will be better for SD TV. The difference balances out with HD sources, but I'd say the plasma will still take it due to the pros of plasma which are deeper blacks and faster response time - certainly a lot better than entry/mid level LCDs. Many forumites have done comparisons between the LA32C530/LA40C530 and PS42C430, and they all state the plasma looks better. Use it, don't use it.

I have not read a single PS42C430 user complaining about IR. I've had the past 3 cricket test matches on for 10+ hours a day and the opaque horizontal info bar at the bottom of the screen has left me with no IR whatsoever. Same goes for hours of movies with black bars, and no IR. Perhaps PS42C430 users would like to comment.

Like I said, the technology has been improved on. Vastly. Not to mention it's rated at 200,000 hours before half life (30+ years of average viewing), and the power usage is negligibly more than LCD. The old problems have been rooted out.

Go to the store and look at the sets. That's the only way you'll understand, and appreciate the 10" extra goodness. :)

LG Wireless TV:

Now you can give your beautiful new LG HDTV more breathing room. With a Wireless Media Kit (sold separately), stunning Full HD 1080p images are transmitted to your HDTV remotely -- with no wires between the box and the TV. Everything connects to the Wireless Media Kit and the TV only needs to be plugged into a power supply. That means you can hook up all of your entertainment devices on one side of the room and enjoy them on your LG TV that's neatly mounted on the other side of the room.
From http://www.lg.com/us/tv-audio-video/televisions/wireless-tv.jsp

That does not seem that big draw for me.
Amazon sells the kit for $169.99 (http://www.amazon.com/LG-AN-WL100W-Wireless-Media-Kit/dp/B003I6718M)
It is up to you on whether the wireless is such a big draw.

How big are you on sport?
Considering LG has 100Hz True Motion, it would be good for sport.

I'm guessing the OP did not ask about plasma because they still think it suffers from the same problems it did years ago which aren't true any more. Am I not allowed to clear the doubt? Surely that's constructive, and part of life's learning? I can give you so many other examples of why it is beneficial to clear doubt.

Older tech is irrelevant. LCD is old tech too. Both techs get improved on.

1024x768 is perfect if you do not need full HD. The plasma is still a wide screen 720p HD TV.

The PS42C430 does not suffer from motion judder. If you actually got as involved as I do in discussions, you would realise that the motion judder is a problem on the PS50C550 full HD plasma at about R12,000.

It seems I have ulterior motives? What a laugh. I bet you the 10+ forumites who bought plasma, at least 5 of which thanked me for my input, also think I have these "ulterior motives". You're seeming exactly like a LCD fanboi right now.

Agreed on going to look at the TVs in the store.

My 2c.

I just got my replacement from the insurance co, the LA40C530 and ya still not happy with the picture quality running SD PVR. To be honest its crap, my Sony Bravia 72cm CRT looks better.

I haven't really been able to compare the Plasma quality but I hear it is much better. I am keen to get the 50inch plasma when the price is right.

O and the cricket looks ghastly on my LCD :(

The LA32C530 would be my pick. It's the most popular and most documented of those TVs.

However don't not include plasma because of its previous cons which you perhaps still thought applied today. The PS42C430 is the best deal on a TV these days. It's amazing quality and size you get for your buck, much better than any entry level LCD you mentioned.
