Hi

Do anyone have experiences with this meter to share?

It was installed by city power in my Sectional title unit in Midrand. I have tenants there and they allowed the installation of it, I the owner was not contacted. Using this, the geyser is switched on and off remotely by City Power at certain times.

Usually if you want it removed, you have to pay a monthly surcharge that is prohibitively expensive.

Why are you asking for user experience? What is your actual question?

As it was installed without my approval, I would think it would be within my right to remove it.

The geyser switch on the DB board broke a few weeks after installation of this meter, and had to be replaced. Other than that, the tenants are not complaining, so I'll let it be for now.

I believe if you don't approve the installation, the surcharge will automatically be applied. Most houses have had something like this for the past 30 years and most people are not even aware of it. Your current property probably also has one.

But as others have said, this is about stopping geysers being on during peak hours. So that City Power can make more of a margin on Eskom's supply...

Really wish the city would understand that it might be better to treat users as adults rather than petulant children... "no electricity tonight for you, you've been bad!"

What are you on about? Geyser load control has been going on for decades and most people never noticed their geyser has no power for a number of hours a day. It is a very sensible thing to do with very little adverse effect. Nobody will manually turn off their geyser between 18h00 and 22h00 every night to aide with load control if asked to do so, but with an automated system they hardly notice when it is off.
