lead with your lights on... take 2

Driving with your lights on increases CO2 output of your car and fscks up the environment.

Personally I don't care. To me it takes away the advantage motorcyclists have on the road. People still drive like dorks anyway, lights on or not.

End of story (is this the new "I am right and nothing anyone can say about it" phrase?)

Not at all it means that this topic has been flogged to death on various threads and you always end up with the same arguments being bandied about. By all means run in the dark, just don't kill anyone else but yourself in the process, because they cannot see you coming.

If your bulbs keep going, it's probably another problem, not the fact that you are running with bulbs doing what they were designed to do.

Pleased to say that most of us on the Durban/South Coast run are now running with headlights on.

Makes everyone a great deal more visible.

I'd be happy if someone explained to those tjops that insist on driving in daylight with their brights on that it doesn't make them more visible than the lesser beings

People must first learn to drive with their main lights on, not PARK lights, I mean, wtf?. Same goes for using lights at night, the fact that you cannot see your dashboard should be a clue.

In any case, I thought it was compulsory (not that it would be enforced if it is) to switch your lights on at least an hour before sunset, as well as for an hour after sunrise. Vehicles having lights on at those times is useful for visibility.

Let's not even get into a discussion about the knobs who see this as an opportunity to use their fogs.

I don't drive with my lights on - but I'm after last week in the rain, I think I'm going to start.

I've got a sapphire blue Golf and this idiot in a Suburu didn't check his blind spot and nearly hit me :/

"Run in the dark"?? Who said anything about that? When it is overcast/raining, switch on your main lights. When it is close to dusk/dawn, switch on your main lights. When its night, switch on your main lights. When the sun is shining, do not switch on your main lights. Like I said, there are reasons why proper DRLs are not as bright as main lights.

lol, look i was just interested in if you did start driving with your lights on recently... do you still do it or have you stopped :)

All I want to know is how can some people think they can drive on our national roads with "park lights".
Aren't they for parking or have I missed the class for parking at 120km/h.

Agreed!

P A R K means exactly that...when the car is parked and standing still. I officially recognise those fools as the ones who think they will run their batteries flat if they switch the headlights on.

To light or not to light...

Driving with your headlights on makes you more visible yes. That's why bikers do it.

Forgetting your lights on...
Most cars nowadays make a noise of some kind if you forget to switch your lights off.

I think it is mostly a personal choice if you drive with your lights on or not.

It should only be compulsory during poor visibility conditions.
I use the guideline of: If I do not need my sunglasses to dampen the light enough to make seeing possible, my lights should be on.

If someone is complaining about forgetting their lights on, their cars surely does not have this feature.

That's a good guideline. Except I think that an hour before sunset or after sunrise, your lights should be on. No matter what.
