So why would it take out the websites? I am thinking of a technical reason why it might be problematic?

Got an email from Hetzner Germany recently saying their data centre was using an extra megawatt due to this bug (on all their linux machines)... would people mind restarting their servers.

I didn't though... run windows so wasn't an issue.
