Interesting. Talking about SA specifically. C# and Java up there. Thats if you look at the advertising on the recruitment sites. Thats where the most shortages are. Mobile languages should be taking over. But then the SA market isn't China/US,UK. Falling behind on skills, few new skilled knowledgeables come through. the last time I worked with a young dev was 8 years ago. After that mid to late 30s.

A lot of the work in development on mobile development that I have seen in the UK is in-house and extends a companies web site to iOS and android devices. There aren't to many companies that do only iOS or android or even mobile only development. These so-called "mobile" languages only serve to provide access to massive corporate networks, where the bulk of development effort still takes place. I don't see that changing. Mobile languages simple don't have the capabilities needed, and languages used for backend and desktop work can't deliver the experience required for mobile devices. Both are needed.

Now that that is done...

/in before "C++ can do all the things"
/in before "uh uh, C is the bestest ever language ever"
/in before "C#... all the jobs are C#"
/in before "But nodejs is life! ,,,,,,,,,,,,"
/in before "Yeah, nodejs with HTML 5. It is the only way! ,,,,,,,,,,,"
/in before "[insert essay about functional programming here]"

True, for now IMO. Thing is desktop and laptops are becoming less and less used by the ordinary public. Most access social media with more powerfull devices that will become more and more powerfull. So unless someone is in IT or gaming and have a need for a laptop or desktop I see mobile developement get really big compared to web dev.
