Leather work is only get make cash same as any other prof. No use doing a prof to try and make gear for your toon. Just not worth it in my opinion.

Like myself, I got enchanting, I never do enchants, I dis and sell the mats or supply my own mats for enchants. I make planty $ that way. Selling enchants only bring in little cash ;)

Dragonscale Leatherworking has some good Mail items that you can make for a Shaman.

At level 70 these is a good Enhancement Set and a very good Elemental Set you can make.

Lol Optioncarduser :P

Personally I don't think it's worth the effort of leveling for that one set (kinda funny considering I've got 375 Master Hammersmith for Dragonstrike but at least it's BT quality)
The sets are nice but because Season 1 is so easy to get and soon Season 2 will be honour purchasable they're not as good as they once were.
While you're leveling there are a few nice items you can make but only 1 or 2 of them are BoP so if you get the mats you can just get a LW to make most of the items for you (and if you go Skinner you'll have a lot of the mats)

Pitbull is correct when he says you can make good money with Enchanting. It's very handy to be able to enchant your gear as you level and being able to DE can save you a ton of bag space.
I'd recommend Enchanting and a Gathering profession (Herbalism/Mining/Skinning) as the 2 paired are an excellent way of making gold.

My shammy is a leatherworker. The only two things I'd really miss are drums and our guild not having a leatherworker that can craft the tanking and dps leg kits. Imo those drums are fairly useful for raiding especially if you have a number of leather workers.

I wouldn't go leatherworking though if you're interested in profit. Like most of the crafting professions you will only make money out of it if you get several rare patterns.

I went with leatherworking recently purely out of a dps boosting point of view. The new Sunwell patterns in 2.4 with craftable BOP mail items are better than most of the mail drops in the Sunwell...

So I think for once it will be worth your while to craft gear which is better than drops.

As for making gold, I make a lot of gold with my nethercobra + nether clefthoof legging armour patches. Only downside is you need lots of primal nethers / heroic badges to keep up with supply and demand. In 2.4 Primal nethers are not BOP anymore, so that might cause a loss of income for me.

Leatherworking really is more for druids for the Clefthoof set, which is the best starting gear for a bear tank. The Nethercleft/cobra armor kits are also nice. Beyond that, there's very little point, imo. Better stuff can be pvp'ed for or just drops from normal/heroic/raid bosses.

Cleft hoof goes for 200g the kegs on TH server think i should take engineering more usefull for gun wielding dwarf. The stuff you can make looks fun like land mines lol.Can you make epic gun?

Yes you can Petruz....The epic gun was the biggest kick in the teeth for the hunter community when the stats came out. Its designed for tanks or PVP

Engineering as a hunter is only good for; Frost Grenades = makes kiting anything ezmode, and the Surestrike v2.0 googles (on par with t6 hunter imo)

So the gun suck what about rocket boots and parachute?

The parachute is fun situationally but really not that great. The best thing about the rocket boots was for flag running in WSG and that is getting nerfed :(

For a hunter I'd say the best profs to go for is skinning and mining/herbing. Just farm stuff, makea lotta gold, and buy what you need off the AH. Dragonscale Leatherworking used to be good (eg Black Dragonscale set) but these days virtually all the set crafting professions are being left behind, except for tailoring, which is still imba.
If you plan to raid, alchemy is always good, hunters tend to chug mana pots for maximum dps.
Engineering is great while levelling, great for 'twinking', makes some good gear, guns and ammo and trinkets while grinding up exp, and is great for pvp all-round, and the 70 mounts are cool too... but beyond that, isn't really worth it at 70 except for the helm.

I was thinking of taking skining and mining but its a recomended server low pop dont think skining will make a killing.

Rocket boots are fun, as for the parachute cape... http://www.wowhead.com/?item=32539, dont even need to be an engineer to use something similar

but beyond that, isn't really worth it at 70 except for the helm.
I personally enjoy the 'free ammo' part of engineering... making my own ammo is so handy

yes, im a slacker, i dont spend 20g a night on bullets, i make my adamantite shells which after 20min of flying, mining and dailies are practically free(i can get 10000 bullets in 10 bag slots), with less dps on them... yet keep up with the other hunters with hyjal ammo

For me I only went with leatherworking for the drums.
The haste drums are insane on boss fights with rapid fire proc'd.

Even more fun is the drums of panic in BG's when a rogue / warrior is busy pounding you. W000t ?? Hunter with fearing ability !!!

After seeing the sunwell recipes... I am really glad now I leveled up leatherworking.
