Hi all

Need some advice. Have quite a bit of downlighters in my new place - 90% of them halogen. Will need to replace them soon (going green:)) but I have heard that I may have to replace the transformer for the new LED lights (12v). Recommendations for 1) 12v or 220v given the cost of replacing the transformer? and 2) reliable and value for money LED lights. Would be great if you can recommend both dimmable and non-dimmable.

Appreciate the assistance in advance.

Regards
Haggers

There is a thread on it, but it basically boils down to keep using 220V LED downlights. Dont bother trying to get step down transformers and redoing the wiring - far too much effort and additional fire hazards. You can get The 220V LED GU10 bulbs in dimmable and non-dimmable versions too.

We redid our house to 220V LED downlights (about 80 of them in total) and they work great. Same warm white colour and they hardly ever break - in the last 3 years [-]we've[/-] I've only replaced a single bulb, but that was in the bathroom above the shower without any additional shielding from the moisture.

I dont know if the eishkom subsidies still apply for a bulk retrofit, but places like Karebo still sell them at really great subsidised prices:

Hi, i did go through the other threads. Couldnt determine whether to go 12v or 220v. Currently have 12v and was considering 220v if the transformers dnt work.

Will have a look at the link
