like i said,i have the pirated vesion and the original.after the original version(downloaded via steam) did not work i went out and bought a pirated version to see if it works but with no luck.the problem started when i updated my original version of L4D

Strange - the download from steam should work perfectly. Maybe you should try open a support ticket with them?

steam is the problem,parts of their system was down.i fixed the ''connection to the season has been lost''by changing the config text file,the number should be 700 or if that doesn't work u can just delete the file.

1. Fair enough.
2. I missed the "even the real game would not work" in one of your posts. I apologise.
3. The Steam community servers go down for maintenance now and then, which prevents you from joining online game, damn annoying I agree.
Check the Steam forums, they have a Downtime Announcements thread, that we can check if the community servers are down or will be going down for maintenance.
Also some games are not join-able, they may already be in the finale or they may be set to friends-only.
Also, if your have not already join the IS Gaming and SGS steam groups, so that their hosted servers show up in game.

Is it an immediate disconnect? Or do you get a countdown where the game attempts to reconnect?
What message do you get, if any? Anything logged to the console, or was that the NULL XUID thing you mentioned before?

well when i try to connect to my group server it disconnects after about 2 seconds into the game no lag just instant disconnect and when i try to join a normal online game it gives me the error message DISCONNECTED:the connection with the session has been lost.
