Legal action?

Doesn't make sense to me.

R35 000 / R199 per MB = 175GB

Where on earth did they/you get this information from?

And what could your brother have possibly downloaded? P0rn?! He is 10 y/o!!!

I worked out the same figures. Unless of course iBurst charged him pay-per-use = R0.95/MB = R950/GB --- as farked up as they are, they probably did.

But even working on that calculation, thats around 36GB for R35 000, its still far off from 50GB.

PPU doesn't apply for him. He mentioned in his first post that his brother some how learnt how to log in to the Self Service and 'top up' his bandwidth...

I'm sure iBurst like any other SP keeps stats on user usage and usage patterns. Why didn't they notify you when you reached a certain limit. Surely they have to accept some responsibilty in this regard. R35 000 doesn't add up. I would think that the techs at iBurst would be reasonably intelligent and that common sense would prevail. Who in their right mind would top up with 35K! Contact the user and find out whats going on. Obviously the first thing that would come to mind - FRAUD!

1. Declare bankrupcy...
2. Sell your brother's ass to or his kidney
3. investigate how they calculated the bandwidth purchase option...

What are the Pay-per-use rates?
iBurst Wireless
On all iBurst Wireless packages the cost is 95c per mb

so 95c per mb = 4864000c/50gig...

I don't know how you people can entirely blame iBurst... it's the kid's fault. Make him work the streets for the next 40 years until he pays it back! Kids these days are never taught to be accountable for their actions.

Is that how you would treat your son in a similar case? I doubt it. A child of 10 cannot be expected to understand the adult world. There's no doubt that kids should be taught to be accountable for their actions. That is a responsibility of all parents but punishments should be a measured with a lot of understanding.

Also

A child of 10 cant legally contract without his guardian...

bs! for every action there is a reaction... if they kid knowingly purchased the bandwidth they must have know how much it costed!

My gf's cousins knew all about money from the age of 6... so I seriously doubt you can say a kid at age 10 doesn't know about the adult world...

I find people who store important passwords and credit card on ANY pc is just looking for trouble! It's like giving someone a CC with NO limit...

Your gf's cousins knew all about money from the age of 6? Do you really think that they actually understood it. The extent to which they had earnt or spent any money was most probably limited just to pocket money. Knaagdier's brother might have worked out how to top up with bandwidth but was R35000 any different in his mind to his R3.50/week pocket money? True understanding of money only comes with age and experience. Just knowing which buttons to press on a computer does not mean you understand the consequences of such seemingly innocuous keystrokes.

Bolox man - at 10 the kid knew what he was up to was wrong, he obviously did not realise that it would cost 35k tho. He should be punished, klaar.

Let us know how this works out. Ouch.

PS. If you father is beating you or your brother so you are too scared to approach him about this I would suggest contacting Child Welfare. Sounds like he is not right upstairs.
