Hi

This is our scenario. We are hosting databases for different clients and have realized that all have the same primary key. This presents a means of looking at trends for us. I would like to know what our legal obligations are regarding this data - if the customer owns the data, do we need to ask permission for using their data in a trend analysis? Does anyone have a guide on what the do's and don't are in this situation? The data is logically separated and will remain that way.

Thanks.

You should refer back to your own terms and conditions for starters. What is your privacy policy, etc. Then start looking at industry norms and ethics.

if anyone who are hosting with you finds out you even look through their data never mind do some stats based on it, they will move their hosting as fast as technically possible. Just my personal opinion.

The customer owns the data: **** with it and you lose your business ...

Yup.

Isn't your customers data confidential?
Perhaps you do have some strange terms and conditions but do you mind saying who you work for so I never host with them?
