Hi rpm

Just some room for concern here. I've noticed that although we've got 500+ members, there's a few that have not placed any posts on the site.

This raises a few questions and I hope this is not the case. This forum is for a good cause, with that, I hope that an ambitious person is not creating spoof user accounts on MyADSL just to get our member numbers up. This, in my opinion, would seriously jeapordise our credability with Telkom and could hurt the forum. Before we go in with member numbers, perhaps we should implement some type of member verification just to make sure we have the number of members we think we have. For all we know, we could actually have a fraction of whats been registered.

I'm not implicating anyone, and I'm not saying this to throw a log in our path for what this site stands for. But let's make sure we have the 'critical mass' we require before we continue our discussions with telkom.

You guys are welcome to comment

It's possible, but I doubt it.

I'm a member on two other boards where I have never posted anything. There are people who prefer to read the posts than to join in.

There are members on this board who do not even have ADSL, but they're more than welcome here because they're showing an interest.

And I'm one of those who doesn't have ADSL - Well not in SA anyway. And the 80+ people who I referred to MyADSL don't have it either - thats why we joined MyADSL because there are wider issues regarding ADSL than performance. Implementation dates and availability for one, and Telkom's refusal to accomodate customer demand. And for those who still think KwaDukuza is made up of cane farmers, and beach bums, I can assure you, we are a thriving and flourishing Metro that was summarily dismissed by Telkom as a non priority.
I'll put money on it that our gang of would be ADSL-ers are among the many members that prefer to observe.

In any event, there's strength in numbers. By registering, irrespective of involvement, it is a clear show of hands and cannot be dismissed by Telkom - not if they are market aware anyway......huh? [:D]

Agreed, I'm just worried about spoof accounts. The last thing we want to find out is that out of a possible 500+ members, only 15% (for example) are actual members.

I have registered to lend my support, however I am an ISDN user - I simply will not pay for an overpriced substandard product. But I am hopeful that either RPM will get somewhere with Telkom to provide a better service or some other broadband alternative will come along and I find MyADSL very informative in that regard.

ye, im one of those 'observers' ;P

unfortunately i got asdl before the ridiculous network shaping came in, so i'm undecided about continuation - u guys are an important part of my choice so keep the pressure on ;)

On the flip side, I am sure that there are several other members such as myself, who represent 6 or more ADSL user sites / lines. I speak on behalf of all of them as I am responsible for keeping their networks running.

I'm not a south african adsl user, but would very much like to see REAL ADSL implemented, I work as a web developer in the uk at the moment, but would love to return and work from south africa. If a truly cost effective and reliable service were available I'd be more than happy to work from sa, so I'm watching developments with interest.

I also went back to isdn. But i would surely return to adsl were it to become a useful product in SA. I continue to give my support on this site.

I understand what Quazzi is getting at, but i think most of the users on this site are here for the right purpose, and would not indulge in faking accounts.

I am also an ISDN user, and have been for a couple of years. If it weren't for some friendly advice to visit this board first, I might have plunged into it based only on Telkom's (mis-/lack?)information.
At this stage it doesn't seem to make sense to pay about R300 a month more for suddenly being restricted (capping, network-shaping, etc.).
I was really looking forward to ADSL, just a pity I will now have to bite my lip and hold on while longer.
Thanks for al those that post the problems here - You are doing everyone a GREAT favour.
Thanks to rpm for taking up all the issues. Actually, if Telkom has any common sense, they will realise you have actually implemented a way of 'improving' their product offering, making an SNO offering even tougher....but I guess they might not be wise enough to see this *sigh*. Hang in there buddy - you are on the right path.

bullstein, I hope you're right - but I guess it wouldn't hurt to verify all our members, would it - I wouldn't mind filling in a 5 minute response or something of the like just to verify that I'm legit. Just a thought
