Since I have lemons growing in my garden(which never get used)- I looked up some health benefits of making some lemon juice:o

"Squeezing in from the back to the front of the citrus popularity cue, after staggering in the shadow of oranges and the lime’s light, lemons are reinventing themselves as marvelous, medicinal ingredients for homemade health remedies.

It's time to "let the juice out of the flesh" on how consumers can press extra medicinal mileage out of their lemons for improved health.

Lemons contain certain elements, which will help to build up a healthy system and keep that system hale and hearty. They assist in treating asthma, biliousness, colds, coughs, sore throat, flu, heartburn, liver complaints, scurvy, fevers and rheumatism.

According to World's 125 Healthiest Foods, lemons also, like other citrus fruit, contain limonoids that help fight cancers of the mouth, skin, lung, breast, stomach and colon. They also contain flavonoid compounds that have anti-cancer and antioxidant properties such as flavonol glycosides, best known to stop cancerous cell division, while also having an antibiotic effect.

According to Jethro Kloss, author of Back to Eden, lemons are also good for a myriad of other reasons.

It is also anti-scorbutic. This means the fruit acts as a remedy that will prevent disease and assist in cleansing the system of impurities. They also act as an antiseptic or agent that prevents sepsis (the presence of pathogenic bacteria) and putrefaction (the decomposition of tissue).

Kloss also says that lemons are wonderful stimulants for the liver and is a dissolvent of uric acid and other poisons in the body.

Lemon juice also helps to aid the bowels in eliminating waste more efficiently. The digestive qualities of lemon juice also relieve indigestion symptoms such as heartburn, bloating and belching.

Sufferers of chronic rheumatism and gout will also benefit by taking lemon juice, as will those who have a tendency to bleed, or suffer uterine haemorrhages, rickets or tuberculosis.

Lemons contain certain elements, which aid in building and maintaining the immune system.

Lemon remedies
Here are a few ways in which the juice of freshly squeezed lemons can be used as ingredients for home-made remedies treating a variety of ailments, according to Back to Eden:

* For a sore throat, dilute fresh lemon juice with water and gargle frequently. Dilute the juice of half a lemon with one-half of water. It is even better to use straight lemon juice.
* Relieve the pain of calluses by binding a slice of lemon on them overnight.
* To relieve asthma, take a tablespoon of fresh lemon juice one hour before each meal.
* For liver complaints, the fresh juice of the lemon should be taken in a glass of hot water one hour before breakfast every morning.
* For the relief of heartburn, make a remedy by adding a teaspoon of fresh lemon juice in half a glass of water.
* For rheumatism, 30-60 ml of fresh lemon juice diluted in water should be taken three times a day: one hour before meals and at bedtime.
* In cases of haemorrhage, fresh lemon juice diluted in water and taken as cold as possible will help to stop it.
* Scurvy is treated by giving 30-60 ml of fresh lemon juice diluted with water every two to four hours.
* In the case of excessive menstruation, the juice of three to four lemons a day will help keep it in check. It is best to take the juice of one lemon at a time in a glass of cold water.

You are a lucky man to have a tree. Is it the smooth skin one or the rough skin?

I reckon Mila has been mixing the odd shot of tequila with her lemon juice. Everyone KNOWS trees can't drown. They are made of wood. DUH!

:D I had a baby tree and the neigbours had a pipe that leaked for months. ( and by months i mean close to 18 months) We thought the neighbours had a natural spring:o And our soil is pure clay so the tree died:( Even all my tomatoes drowned:( and they love water. They only fixed it after we ask that if we share the cost if we can make a borehole or something.:( My car got stuck and had to be dragged of my lawn.:D

Goes well with raw fillet, balsamic vinegar & mature parmesan.
