Does anybody maybe know what the hell the are so busy digging for? One would hope it would be for a massive fibre optic cable (massive in Gbps not size :D ) being laid for "future" boradband initiatives. In that case, hooray since my exchange would be right there on the "backbone" (hey, a small piece of fibre can be a backbone in SA)

I dont see any branded trucks (ie Telkom bakkies) overseeing things. Just a whole long 1m deep hole.

In the end I guess its just for a waterpipe or something. But I have to hope :)

unlikely since the route is more along the highway. these are most definitely some kind of sunken piping type of holes.

gautrain development hasnt started yet has it?

Well they are building new office blocks on the corner of Von Willich and Lenchen south... Fibre optics - I doubt it...

New Road - K109

Hi,

The digging going on from Lenchen South is for the first phase of the K109.

This first phase will run from Lenchen towards the N1, go over the N1 by bridge and then parallel to the N1 and join up with Nelmapius Road.

This is only the fist phase of it.

The later phase is to extend the road from Lenchen in a northerly direction and it will run parallel to Migmatite Road (that runs through Zwartkops Extension 8) and then join up with the Ben Schoeman highway.

I guess the trenches are for power lines for the street lights.

Unless they use these lines for BPL (broadband over power lines) I guess we won't get data through there.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

So will this K109 go over Lenchen? Or just connect to Lenchen? Whats the point of this new road..?

While we are on it, if you drive aloong Lenchen, just over the N14 bridge on the left they are doing something. Rumour has it, thats for the Gautrain... I seriously doubt this and expect it to be just more offices/business parks.. any idea whats happening over there? Confirmation of Gautrain station construction perhaps?

Thanks for the K109 info by the way.

I did see them rolling thick power cable and some pretty thick orange cable. Possibly fibre! But it looked a bit thicker than the usual fibre cable lets say 5cm diameter compared to 1-2cm..

I was wondering why anyone would pour money into the Eco Park development when there's a obvious lack of decent access roads. Question answered.

I think if it's orange it's fibre, what a Telkom techie told me the other day when they were working on the box on the corner...Told him if he broke my internet I'd be breaking his fingers.
