Possible to use these together at all?

I know we discussed that a lens hood is also protection, but I think I'd feel just *that* much better knowing there was a cover over the glass too.

I see Orms has for R495.00

PS Does Orms charge R100.00 courier no matter the size and weight? So makes sense to add something else to my basket?

Maybe a lens cleaning kit? ;)

I had a tiny mark on my lens last night - and something that couldn't be blown away carefully. Sat there and removed it carefully removed it with a fine cloth I got with TV - but worried ... :/

Maybe a lens cleaner

Are you right handed?

Firmly hold the lens with your left hand, being it up to your face and breathe on it, remove your shirt tail with the right hand and gently wipe away condensation.

Lens clean

Send bwana your R500 as a token of gratitude.

... they say DON'T use shirts! Websites really put the fear of God into me that I almost get the feeling they scartch if you look at them the wrong way!

I handle the thing like a bomb - extremely delicately and almost like it'll explode shortly. I think I'll just invest in a few super fine clothes then

Get a pack of Rizla, heck, get ten and then just send me R450. Either way you're going to have to be pretty dedicated to rub off the coating they put on these days. ;)

I carry a lens pen most of the time and find the brush useful. I use it a lot more than the lens pen itself or the microfiber cloth.

Buy yourself a sensor pen - it will save you a fortune in sensor cleaning.

Do you get cleaning with the free membership, or do you have to pay for a higher level of membership?

No idea. I can do a better job with the sensor pen than the local guy does anyway.

...plus you don't have to wait three weeks to get your camera back...

That's what I'm talking about
It’s now time to touch the front element of your lens and clean it. If you are worried about rubbing the coating off, don’t be. We’ve never seen it happen, ever.
And they say to just breathe on the lens.

Thanks to my camera addiction, a wife, and two kids, I'm a poor man and as a result my shirts are old and soft. :)

Ouch... so you don't just walk into the Nikon Service Centre, hand over the camera to the technician, wait ten minutes and leave with a clean sensor?
Kindly note that the only Nikon Authorized Service Centre is located at the following address:
Foto Distributors
Nikon House
68 Kyalami Boulevard
Kyalami Business Park
Midrand
Not really a selling point if you aren't close by. ;)

On the other hand learn to do it yourself and you don't have to rely on the Nikon Service Centre. ;)

ok - I'm going against bwanas advice and getting one :/

I see they DO degrade image - but if you get an multicoated, the difference isn't visible unless one blows up and stares at the photo. For me, I think they benefit of protection outweighs the IQ reduction ... as dust always settles on the lens and I sweat everytime.

Knowing it cost one guy the price of a 70-200 F4 to get his front element of his 2.8 replce, didn't help ;)

So 0- anyone used Kenko Pro?

go for it - it's your lens.

I've just had a close look at my 4 year old f/4 and despite heavy use in inhospitable conditions there's not a scratch on it (at least not on the front element) - I guess I must be doing something right. :)

You are right about everything and degrading; I just battle to sleep at night when I have a spec of dust ;)

Filter / no filter is almost like a Canon / Nikon debate!
