I want to chat about an issue that everyone in SA knows about but no one actually does (or even tries) to do something. Everyone just carries on and accepts it. We all wish we could have the broadband like UK or USA. Why not?
Telkom is making how much money from us. There service sucks and it’s to pricy for most people.

Virgin Media lets people know how much they can download
While our comrades in the US are subjected to slow ADSL speeds and the possibility of capping Virgin Media in the UK has pretty much pushed the envelope where broadband is concerned. Recently they let customers using their broadband services know how much they can download in a day using their connection, even when their daily usage threshold has been reached. Why they don't do this here is anyone's guess. Oh hold on - greed.

Broadband XL 20Mbps 134GB £29 (R435) R7,906 R237,180
The 'SA/day' and 'SA/month' columns have been lovingly thrown in for comparison, and shows one what the equivalent amount of gigabytes would cost per day and per month at R59/GB. Now if you are South African and have just read that you are probably in tears. Where a user gets 15GB per day in the UK, most have to make do with a fraction of that per month. Oh and the prices stated above are for the first 6 months, after which they go up by a measly 8 quid. What a shocker. Let's not mention that a pint of beer in almost any pub is around £2.50 - £3, so all in all a 20Mbps line with a 134GB/day limit will cost you around 10 pints a month. That might sound expensive to an alcoholic but to anyone else it's pretty much negligible. Even a beggar could afford that. A South African one.
Why do we have to pay this much for an internet connection? Yea some will use is for leeching stuff, but what about kids using it for education, students uses it for projects, gamers for gaming and so on…
Does Telkom actually pay a lot of money for the bandwidth? If not why should they take all the money for no service or bandwidth?
Can anyone come up with an plan/idea how we can stand together and demand them to come down with their prices and/or giving more GB/pm
You can’t even get hold of some management people of Saix, Telkom or the Government.
So what do you peeps say? Any ideas or am I the only guy who is a bit crazy/stupid enough to try something… and well I really hope we can do something……….
