The Democratic Alliance visited the Soul City informal settlement in Gauteng on Sunday to hand out solar lights.
This comes after the DA launched its “Light up your Life” campaign in 2012, with the aim of installing solar lighting in different rural settlements around Gauteng.
In 2012, more than 200 residents of Springs, Jeppe and Zamani benefited from the initiative, with each shack receiving three lights.
It is estimated that one solar panel with one battery costs R2,500 and powers up to eight shacks with light.
