Lets put windows 10 on diet.

I was about to warn you that your ignorance is shining through, lucky for you the post you quoted mentions Ubuntu specifically.

But in regards to uptake, do keep in mind that Android and iOS are Unix operating systems, so is the great majority of every electronic device in existence, from microcontrollers to almost all the world's Supercomputers. Unix has dominated long ago and wil continue doing so.
OK, so when it comes to running a PC or a laptop on a corporate network, there is very little uptake on Linux. Definitely in South Africa. I've just made it clearer.
In that case, and without having to dig deep to include cellphones, there is little chance Windows will be upstaged any time soon based on licensing models, how software is programmed etc.

Why does this argument keep coming back? Android is a java OS that uses the linux kernel for hardware support, you cannot directly compare that to GNU Linux Desktop.

The only reason windows still dominates in small business is it's easier to pirate it than switch to linux..... even third party business apps are addicted to M$ Office formats.

even if its easy to pirate....linux is free,so its a choice.MIcrosoft OS is simply and mostly point and click gui.The only reason why i chose not to go with linux is to much typing and commands and if a driver dont work you have to literally build it up..lol.
All these years i always seen linux and ubuntu etc etc as operating systems for nerdy ppl that want to ticker.:D

That's part of the point, even though technically Linux is both cheaper and easier in practice once it's actually set up people find it easier to go the more difficult route of pirating windows because they require either it's:
Driver compatibility
Third party app support
Office format support
Familiarity

And then odd things still happen on Linux like a normal browser update making your system unbootable....

Lol...sure. I mean, all businesses pirate, right?
It's harder to switch to Linux as it's a retraining of your workforce on how to use the particular flavour of Linux chosen. That's the real reason.
Unless you're in China in which case pirating is easy. Don't let piracy fool you into believing that's the only reason companies stay on Windows.

I said small business not business. I have come across very few small business that does not pirate to some degree.

Well, then they're putting their businesses at risk. They know they need to license the software and if they're pirating and get caught out, they'll get no sympathy which will end up costing them more.

That kind of logic only generally matters with bigger businesses. They know no one is gonna bother auditing someone that does not even make enough profit to pay tax.

Linus did a video on removing bloatware out of Windows.
