Lets put windows 10 on diet.

all my windows has updates disabled via services

I'm running Win10 Home, with it you can't just disable via services as WinUpdates/Orchestrator will keep bringing the service back up. You also don't have access to the metered connection option.

this is 2021,surely there has to be a way to boot form sd
hehe unfortunately not, it's just how the specification was designed and how OEMs want to enforce it solely as a block device rather than a usable, readable filesystem in BIOS, you can use tricks like a boot-CD to specify booting to an memory card / SD slot afterwards though, also mixed results.

That's why the first thing you install is WinUpdatesDisabler.

all my windows has updates disabled via services
Every day it's still grossly sad to see that Microsoft had this effect on the world where actually considering to disable updates is a viable means to an end :/

I really don't see the point in trying to make something that was designed for modern equipment try work on outdated tech. Windows 10 is simply not designed to run on such old tech that can't even accommodate the size of the software. Sure you can try till you blue in the face, but is it worth the issues and hassle if you do manage somehow to get it right? Why?

Maybe install XP?

Although I don't have much experience with Linux, I do know it is designed to also work on low and old spec devices, freaking can even run it on a Rasberry Pi.

What the heck do you want to run on such an old device that can't be done with a Linux OS such as Ubuntu?

Maybe just give it try?

Yeah - what RedViking said. Even if you get it working, using it will be painful. Give a light linux distro like SparkyLinux a shot.

I have been in this situation before. Windows simply causes grief on a machine with limited disk space. Even if you do manage to fit the thing on the disk, Windows update will happen and you will get screwed.

Aside from Linux, a good option to use would be Cloudready. Which is Chrome OS for non-chromebooks.

So much hate for netbooks.

Install Windows XP
Not a hate for them, but one should realize when something has outlived its usefulness.
I have a Lenovo S10, 1st gen, that I bought 2009. I need to throw it away, just can't get it over my heart. I have tried every OS, from Windows, ChromeOS, AndroidOS to Linux. There isn't much use I can get out of it. Everything today demands a lot of your browser and the old Netbooks, just can't handle it with their Atom CPU's and you're forced to use 32bit OS. So Widevine support is sparse.
One must just admit when it is time to move on. That's how everything is designed, these days.

...of course. Because the uptake for Mint vs. Windows is so great, companies are flocking to replace Windows with it.
In a corporate environment, it will never happen en-masse. Microsoft licensing price breaks and all.
I was about to warn you that your ignorance is shining through, lucky for you the post you quoted mentions Ubuntu specifically.

But in regards to uptake, do keep in mind that Android and iOS are Unix operating systems, so is the great majority of every electronic device in existence, from microcontrollers to almost all the world's Supercomputers. Unix has dominated long ago and wil continue doing so.

so what crunb is actually aying is in bios boot form cd, but actually mod the file system of the sd to make it a fake cd..laymans right
You can boot Normal boards from almost anything, a SD card a floppy, hell you can even boot from your android's SD card via USB, but only if the hardware is built to standard and not physically nerfed by the manufacturer like they do with netbooks.
