I think it would be of great help if the user on the forum with P4's could state if they are having problems AND those who don't have problems.


Also give the following details about your pc

1. Name the motherboard manufacturer
2. Motherboard chipset (Intel 865G/PE, Intel 875, SIS, VIA)- I suspect the problem has something to do with this point.
3. What type of HT CPU ( 533FSB, 800FSB – Northwood, 800FSB - Prescott)
4. Amount, speed and make of memory- Are they running dual-channel


I think we could narrow the problem down if enough people participate. I think it has something to do with the chipset, because some people have problems, and other don’t. Maybe it’s just the 865G/PE chips that are giving trouble, or just SIS chips?

Come on people, if we can give the people at sentech (or someone else) a thorough set of tests, they would know were to look for the problem and solve it quicker.

also having the ht problem, but im pretty IT unintelligent, and im sure im not the only one. got my pc pre-built for me so dont have any idea whats in it except for speed. how do i check? do i open box? where on board do i check? where on chip do i check? or where in OS do i check? help me i help you

My Windows XP Pro is up to date with the latest updates.

The problem also occurs with SP1 on XP. I've had the problem on three systems so far, one Win2KSP4 with Epox MB, the other two are WinXP SP1 (fully updated) with two different Intel boards.

Do all the P4'ss you're using support HT? Some P4's don't, maybe this is the cause of the problem?

OK it's pretty clear it's not the OS.

Again, HT does not seem to be the source of the problem. Because some people with Intel Boards don't have the problem, so far it seems to be non-intel 865GT/PE boards.

Are their any people with 875 boards having problems. And what about SIS or VIA chips. Does anyone have the old 3.066Ghz 533FSB P4.

Another thing I think would be worth a try, is to update your bios to the newest versions. I had a problem that a old USB flashdrive that used to crash my pc, the bios update cleared that up.

I think it's worth a try.

No nothing at all. The only time that I did had a problem was when I started to use Panda anti-virus. I've tested it quite a few times by switching betwenn Norton and Panda anti-virus. If I install Panda anti-virus everything goes wrong, not that I'm running the software down because it is very good, but it slows down the performance of your connection. Since I am back on Norton I have no problems.
 
This is my Gateway PC.....absolutely no HT [:)]
No hanging up at all [:p]

I haven't up to now been able to thoroughly check the Gigabyte P4 (2.6G, with HT, did hang once or twice at night) or the Gigabyte P3 (1G) since moving the modem to the Celeron (been away since Thursday) !

Also have the freeze problem. Mine runs fine with HT disabled but i really mis it. And yes, it does make a differance. In all the apps i run and in my general windows functions...

**** very much have problem when ht is enabled, no problem when disabled... need to run ht for a couple of my video apps (im a tv producer)... peeved

Just a note guys, also list your MB manufacturer and model number

so Intel 875 AND SIS 661 has issues. (this looks serious)

This HT problem seems to be the rule rather than the exception, with the only known working board being the Intel manufactured 865 boards.

If that turns out to be true, this is a MAJOR ISSUE. there are thousands of P4's that will have this problem and thousands more in the future. Not to mention the Multi-processor systems out there. The problem will only get bigger in the future with more P4's being sold.

Sentech has to resolve this issue, or risk losing all their clients(potential and current) with P4's (Thats a heck of a lot)(25% maybe)

Keep those stats coming in guys (remember the model and make). If Sentech realises how big the problem is, they will do somthing about it.

If you have the HT problem and have not informed Sentech, do so as soon as possible. If everyone does not report it, Sentech might think it's a small problem.
