Hey guys,

As I'm busy making the leap from 3G to ADSL, I am getting rid of my 3G router and getting a DSL/3G fallback router... The question is, which one? With so many well known and popular brands and models out there, is there at all a way to isolate a single few that rank as "must-haves"?

Currently at the top of my list is the Netgear DGN2200M-100PES which is a 802.11n ADSL2+ DSL router with 3G fallback which supports my Huawei E372, which basically encompasses all the features I'm looking for.

Any other recommendations?

I would go with the Netgear, never had problems with mine. Prob cheaper routers out there tho...

Netgear FTW, had a DG834 and never had issues but got knocked out by lighting :(

now using an Asus router and must day not bad at all, user friendly interface only draw back is every time you change a setting or open a port and you save it the router needs to reboot to take effect which takes about 2min

Well, this particular router is about R1k which is not a trainsmash taking into consideration that it's a gigabit router with 3G support. I'm sure there are cheaper routers out there, but I've only had good experiences with Netgear so I feel it might be worth it!

Thanks for the feedback so far...

DGN2200?

Nah sounds about right, I've got a DGN2000 I bought a couple of years back from the Netgear importers for about R1k.
I have the same ,I rely like this router and it does every thing i want it to do no problems at all.
But not cheap

I have this router as well. Good, but does not support bridged or half bridged mode. Looking to get rid of it. Need Half Brodge mode as I have more than one adsl isp and loggin into rounter to change all the time is really frustrating.

The Netgear DG2200 at R919 at the Telkom shops is a good bet. They also sell a DLINK 2750U for R689 that supports 3G failover

Please be careful of the Telkom routers. They have their own firmware loaded on the routers so you cannot update via the international sites and have to wait until Telkom releases newer firmware. Also Telkom limit you as to which dongles you can use on their routers. In the case of the Netgear you can only use 3 model dongles and they have also disabled the facility where you can attach and share your usb hdd to the router.
The D-Links have issues with dropping both wifi and 3G connections and this was confirmed by various tchnical staff that I spoke to at Telkom.

I'll rather not buy the Telkom version. I specifically need the factory firmware that supports my E372. That's the whole reason behind taking this specific router.

Just as an infomercial:

I finally settled on a Netgear DGN2200M-100PES for my Vodafone K4605 (Rebranded to E372) to use with my 8ta, and it works like a charm! 5mbps down, 2mbps up, nice and constant!
