Heya !

As the topic states, I am in the market for a new car now, and I wasn't exactly sure what to go for... I have ended up with a Lexus is250 on the shortlist, and I would love to hear comments from other Lexus is250 owners.

I had a is250SE for a weekend recently, and I have my own positive / negative comments about the car... But I would like to know from other fellow owners what their highs / lows are with regards to their is250's :)

I can get a very good deal on a new one, and the dealer is willing to give me the car in December while they hold off the registration till Jan 2009 before they register it, which would be excellent for future resale value.

Anything bad about these cars which you guys might have experienced ?
Also how are the dealers with regards to servicing / warranties etc ?

thanks ! :)

I have one, it is the best vehicle I have ever owned. Do not get the manual I have heard some bad reports on the gearbox, I have the Auto. What an amazing vehicle.
I do not have the SE edition, that has the TV, camera etc.

Thanks for the heads up marine1 ... the one I am looking @ buying is a manual, and its also the non-SE version.

I will go do some reading up / research on known IS250 manual gearbox problems. The little bit of time I spent driving one, I must agree... its quite an awsome car !

I have the IS250 manual. Great car. Haven't experienced anything wrong with the gearbox. It's a quiet car. You will enjoy a comfortable drive. The seats do it for me (soft leather) The one downside for the car is the reversing, the back is high so not great visibility. On top of that, if you have light leather (white) seats, it tends to reflect on the back windscreen. I'm sure with the parking sensors it will do wonders (SE).
But overall it's a must have car.

Friends of ours have the IS250 manual and I must say our Mercedes shows us which one to like more...

Had an extended test drive of the IS250 Auto. It is slooooooow.

I have the IS250 SE Auto.

Apart from the fact that it is not a rice rocket .... (i.e. don't expect to race with it)
it is without a doubt the nicest car I have ever had.

It is smooth, luxurious, has every gimmick and gadget and creature cumfort you can think of.

It handles extremely nicely, and is not too heavy on the juice.

I would def give it a +1

Slow compared to?

Virtually any other +-150kw car out there. Even my 6 year old Astra was significantly quicker. The handling was OK but nothing special - and I just didn't find it exciting to drive the car hard.

Having said that, it is built like a brick sh*thouse and is a very comfortable place to be - so if that's all you're looking for, it would be a good buy. I enjoy driving so if I spend 300K+ on a car it had better provide some thrills.

Thanks for all the feedback and comments guys :)

I got the car over the holiday period, and pretty much all the feedback you guys provided were spot on. The car is great and the luxurious feeling you get when you step into the car is amazing !

Yes I agree the car is by no means a high performance rice rocket, but its still pretty good ! There are a few things I will really miss from the SE like eg. the reverse camera, gps + PDC + 17 inch rims.

I will most likely try and fit a decent high quality PDC aftermarket kit on the car... hopefully if I can find one that will look / work decent on the car without having a tacky cheap look to it. Also, seems finding 17 inch SE rims is quite a nightmare. Other than that... I am veerrrrrrryy happy with her ! :p

I have a couple of friends driving the IS250 and they are generally all happy with it...but...remember...

it's a Lexus when you buy it and a Toyota when you sell it ;)
