Hi guys,

I'm in a bit of a spot. I have to decide between a LG L1980Q 19" LCD Monitor and the ViewSonic VX922. The price difference between the two is R600 so the price is not major. The specs on the monitors points that the ViewSonic is the better one, but I have heard that the ViewSonic lacks color reproduction in order to achieve its 2ms response time.

However...the LG is a normal 8ms, 500:1, 250nits LCD that has decent performance but it's arguably the most gorgeous monitor on the market.

So now... I'm stuck. I want a gaming LCD, but I also want something that would nice and compliment the rest of my setup. So it's style vs. brute performance.

The age old question :)

I have both here, from what I can see the LG looks more crisp. It's also a better looking design than the Viewsonic. As for perfomance, both have +- the same specs. IF YOU ASK ME, Which you are :D , i would go with the LG. You won't see any diff between the 4ms and 8ms game wise anyway.

but...person u have no stock :( I WANT MY LG1780Q

Person, how much are you asking for the LG L1980Q? and how available are these monitors? I don't want to wait another month for an order to go through. If that's the case, I'll put off buying an LCD for good. This LCD waiting period is BS.

Edit: No worries. Will find one on my own. Thanks.

anyways...no matter guys :) I have my order placed for a Samsung 214T 21.3" LCD Monitor. This monitor is amazing. 8ms response time, 900:1 contrast ratio. 300nits brightness and a 1600x1200 native resolution at 85Hz.

All this for only R7400. It's awesome value for money and I can just imagine how brilliant my games are going to look on this monitor. Of course, I can't play them all at 1600x1200 but because it's a normal res it will downscale to 1024x768 perfectly without affecting image quality :)

**I hate widescreens, luckily, this 214T isn't one**

widescreens tend to look smaller in the end. And if you're a gamer you wouldn't be caught dead with a widescreen monitor as most games don't support widescreen formats and if you DO hack it to bits to get it to run at that weird res your quality goes to heck.

As far as I can see, there's nothing on the market that beats this Samsung 214T in terms of what you get and price-wise :) I can't wait for this thing!!

I have a LG 1780Q 17", and I just luuuuuvvvvv it, absolutely the best looking LCD.
Looks like you made a good choice though Mr. A

Thanks CodeMaster....saved up a lot of $$$ for a decent LCD and this Samsung was worth the wait. I just hope the suppliers come through this time as the last time I ordered this screen I waited a month with NO feedback from them. ETA is for Friday...let's hope things work out better this time.

Luckily a lot of racing games, the ones that I own at least i.e GTR, works quite well on widescreen. Quite a nice widesfeen gaming forum here. Personally I'd probably go for the TripleHead2Go 3 screen solution, since I already run dual 19" LCDs.

Mr A, how will 1600x1200 downscale to 1024x768 perfectly. I thought it would only downscale to 800x600 perfectly. At 1024x768 its still going to be blurry??

The thing is... can you get stock ? I have a client waiting for the screen and no supplier has stock of that LCD
