Hi guys

I'm going to be in the market for a LCD TV pretty soon. I have a budget of about R16000. I'm really keen on getting the LG 37LC2R LCD TV.
The 37LC2R is a 37" LCD TV (94CM). It is a pretty decent size that should keep me and my wife happy for years to come. I can get it from the LG One Stop shop in Menlyn for R15 500. I do not want to go for anything smaller. Is there any other brands I should look at or would I be able to get it cheaper somewhere else?

To the guys who already own a LCD TV, your input and advise would really be appreciated.

So no one owns or knows enough to give some good advise? Come on man...I really would like to get some input.
 
Im not a fan of LG, but I see their flatscreens are everywhere.
Also those black Samsungs look good, nice finish on the outside, lots of different sizes.
Check around for prices, its sounds reasonable.
 
LG is not always a wise choice, I'll go for Samsung, The price is dropping each month,you can look into plasma and get a 42" and at a cheaper rate then a LCD.A mate of mine got a 37" LG LCD last friday,and I had a viewing on Sunday,I find that you see all the dots on the screen.I have a 42" plasma and there is no dots visible,just a clear screen and that is when watching DVD. You need a big area for a 42" screen. FYI,On the new LCD and plasma, the speakers are at the bottom of the unit,no more side by side.So watch out for the old stock that the salesperson what to sale you.http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=7678541&type=product&id=1134702961817

I still say LCD is better than Plasma, ill get some pics tomorow of what a 2 month old plasma looks like, lotsa burn marks and right next to the 99% burn reduction sticker!:p
 
There's been too much debates about this issue LCD vs Plasma,very time a LCD or plasma is mentioned then a great big debate starts,my solution is if you happy with a LCD then buy one or via versa.Both units have their ups and down sides,just bear in mind LCD cannot distinguish between the different shades of black.
 
Yes and on a plasma, if you watch DMX and Supersport be prepared when the slogans burn your screen.
 
There are anti-burnware builtin that protects your screen. On the new plasma's, the inside of the screen has a continues movement that prevent burn- in.It is 99% safe.

Ye my sis has that sticker at the bottom left of the screen where the DMX music channel burnt DMX onto the screen.
 
How old and what make is the unit.Top end units does not have any burn-ins.
 
Plasma is busy going out of fashion...LCD TV came after Plasma, so it's the new technology. I saw it in action I don't know anything about seeing the pixels.

Been using a Hitachi HD plasma (1 megapixel display) for almost 2 years
with DSTV and no burn in issues. Best picture quality I've seen with any
screen IMO.

You mean those LCD watches I had in the 80's were from the future? :)
Mind you even pocket LCD TV's existed in the 80's, remember seeing
one in 1987 in a shop in Port Elizabeth. That was not a CRT screen
at that size :).

Plasma is NOT going out of fashion. In fact Panasonic, Hitachi-Fujitsu and Pioneer are building new plants and releasing 2 megapixel HD plasma displays.
In all honestly I'd take a Plasma over LCD any day :). There's also
been some research done about what people usually prefer and most
people (over 60%) preferred the LCD picture :).

I am so bloody confused right now. A 42" LG Plasma is going to cost me less than R15 000, but I'm so afraid to make the wrong decision.

You guys seem to be completely on opposite ends. I really like the new LG plasmas...looks flippen good. But their LCDs also look good.

Plasma's resolution is a hell of a lot lower than the LCD. If I should plug my PC into the LCD TV it will look a hell of a lot better than the Plasma. Also the LCD TV's lifespan is much higher than the plasma.

Let me ask this question...which one's technology will last me the longest?

Nevermind...found a very nice link (http://www.flattvpeople.com/tutorials/lcd-vs-plasma.asp) that will help me decide. I'm also just going to take one of my DVDs to the shop and tell them to demo the TV for me.

To end off...Plasma TV's het te veel k@k om oor te worry. I'm getting myself the LCD TV.

OK I wont judge other brands of plasma, but dont get a LG Plasma!

If this is the LG Plasma you are looking at getting then be aware that although it has a HDMI port and may accept a HDTV signal, it's not a HDTV. It's resolution is only 852x480 (i.e. 480p), HDTV requires a minimum resolution of at least 1280x720 (i.e. 720p). The Samsung 42" Plasma is also not a HDTV.

Since you're planning on spending a decent amount of money on your TV, I wouldn't recommend getting anything that isn't a HDTV. The Sony 32" Bravia LCD, Samsung 32" LCD and the LG 37" LCD (with built-in digital video recorder) are all within your price range and are all HDTV's as they have a resolution of 1366 X 768.

Thanks TivoZA...that is what I wanted to hear. Seeing that size is quite important to me...I'm getting the LG 37" LCD.
 
On second thought, I just saw the 42" at Game today. I'm upping my budget to R20 000 and getting the 42" instead. Cheers :D
