Hi all.

Im interested in buying this TV. Has anyone used it before or does anyone know if it is any good?

The model number is: LG 42LM5800 and can see the specs here .

The TV will mainly be used for watching movies and series (off my media player), watching sport and other DSTV channels and gaming.

How does normal TV look when converted to 3D - is the quality good or should I rather buy a non 3D tv?

Please let me know or any other suggestions in the same price point.

Sorry for all the questions but this will be the first 3D TV I buy so want to know if its worth going that route.

Thanks in advance.

Why would you want to convert normal TV to 3D? It will look rubbish.
It will display regular TV when the source is 2D and will display 3D when the source is 3D

The reviews I have read on the TV indicate that when you convert 2D to 3D the results are actually quite good. But to be honest I'd probably end up watching in normal 2D as the glasses mite bother me after a while. I already have a few Blu-Ray movies that are 3D so would use the 3D mostly for actual 3D content.

I rate I am going to go for this TV as all the reviews ect so far have been really good.

Well I went and bought it last night and the quality is FANTASTIC! Obviously when converting 2D-3D it is nothing compared to natural 3D tho but I knew this before I purchased it. But you really see the quality when I play Full HD movies, 3D movies and 3D gaming on XBOX.

Overall I am extremely happy with my purchase. Now I need to start building up my 3D Blu-Ray collection ;)

@PostmanPot - Makro had it on special for R6999 (includes 4 pairs of 3D glasses too). I was fortunate too look cause I was going to buy it elsewhere where it retailed for R8900 so all-in-all a good deal.

Can anyway suggest any must see 3D Blu-Ray movies?

Nice one. The price is fairly good. If it was R8,900 I would have said 51" FHD plasma. Unfortunately at R6,999 your only choice is HD Ready plasma which is better suited for longer viewing distance.
