Has anyone bought one of these from Makro/Game? I picked up one after it was recommended to me by a colleague. Got to say, it plays divx just great, but there've been a couple of issues.

The first was when I went for component video instead of the composite output. Everything got a pink/red tint to it. Only solved by switching back to composite output.

But there's one irritating issue I've been wondering about. Has anyone experienced the following: when the unit powers itself off or sometimes been off for a while, it cannot be switched back on by remote or power switch without pulling out and plugging in the mains again? It's annoying seeing as my power plug is behind the stereo.

My colleague also recently discovered it won't play certain DVDs. He tried the region hack as well.

I'm just keen on hearing if anyone else has had similar or any issues with this thing.

You will have "issues" with all DivX players and DVD players. There is such a wide variety of possibilities when encoding a DivX file that you are bound to come across some that don't play, same as with my MviX player. I have a transcoder on my PC that I use to fix such files.

The DVDs that won't play are probably the newer ones with the "extra protection" (read bad sectors) that are put there by the distributors to stop ripping. Only problem is... it doesn't stop ripping (just use DVD43) but it does stop some DVD players from playing them. Another defective by design initiative. Just rip and re-copy those DVDs on your PC or rip them to DivX.

I understand that, but I think you missed the main problem there. The issue with it not powering back up is the one that is most irritating. I only had one issue with playback so far and that's when I re-encoded a MKV to DivX and Xvid where it would always lose its sync half way through. I'm just trying to find out who has one of these and who might be having that same power-up issue.

I know I can't help you with that as I don't have one of those these. Just thought I would throw some other info in for your benefit. Sorry to waste you time.

No waste of time, mate. :D To tell the truth, the one DVD I have which does not get picked up by this thing is my "Matrix" DVD which might have encryption on it. I can't remember if it is WB or SONY studios. If it's SONY then the copy protect nonsense explains it.

I want a Popcorn Hour!!!!!

I bought the LG DV392 H on Wednesday @ Hi Fi corp for R489 I am still playing around & testing it so far no issues. no power problems and no dvd issues, but I have not tried out all dvd's as yet. My connection is HDMI direct to LCD & fiber optical direct to amp for uses of full DTS. I don't think you must connect it up any other way because if you want to use the Full HD u need to connect it via HDMI which in turn gives you a remarkable HD viewing. A brilliant Full HD DVD player. I am a Philips Divx fan, but LG did something right for a change with this amazing price tag. All round good HD DVD player.

I'm not using it for the upscaling right now. I just have a SONY 74cm CRT TV. I got it for the divx playback. It plays divx content incredibly well. :) I think I'll just have to take this back and have them replace it because of that silly power issue.

Let me know if you spot any issue on it. I know Game is going to be a pain with this thing. My neice got a digital camera from them, but had to send it back for repairs and it came back in a much worse state and took well over 2 months to "repair".

You should have gotten a Philip Divx player, well recommended for the divx playback. Philips has Ultra Divx which no other player has, Mind if I ask what u paid for it?

Paid R464. Makro had it for R489, but Game beat the price by R25. So I'm wondering if they wind up handing out the duds when that happens.

If I had the cash I'd be buying a proper NMT player, but they're $250 or so. They play MKV, but when I have money spare I'll order one of those. There's one that can hook up a USB DVD drive which would be perfect. With WiFi I could just stream off the home PC instead of lugging a flash drive back and forth.

I was at Makro on Wednesday 17th LG was going for R599. How long have you got your unit? I have a media player which play evrything I need in media formats.I purchased the LG for the Full HD, would have gotten the Philips but it was R150 more as I needed to get a printer as well so I settled for the LG and is very impressed with the HD contents.

I have had it now for 26 days... I know, because I had to check the invoice yesterday only to find out Game has a replacement policy of 21 days. :P

When you mean HD are you talking just about the upscaling facility or HD formats you are playing? I don't think the LG will do a HD format divx/xvid, etc., just the upscaling.

What's the other media player you have?

My Media player is an IP Time media player. Standard dvd's look alot better on the LG -HD and playing HD contents from my HD video cam and looking at buying a HD digital cam too, will look a hell of alot nicer on the LG - HD player.

Looks like a good little player. You should check out MKV playback at full 1080p. I've already started collecting titles for when I can afford a big-ass plasma and that NMT player. :)

I cannot get into your link as the companies websense blocked it, will try at home later.

:D Hey, if you in corporate IT there's no rest either... I am finally taking leave this year, but still at night the stupid VPN has to be used.

Sounds like your unit is a lil dodgy with those power issues...
I have an LG DivX player, can't remember the model number off hand, and have never had a single issue with it.
Perhaps try taking it back?
Hi-Fi Corp has a nice Warfedale (I don't know how to spell that :p) with USB & SD slots & CD ripping for around R480 I think...

I'll have to do that, but probably only after Christmas seeing as I need the darn thing now. It's past replacement time anyway, so it'll be repair only... whatever Game decide "repair" is, they usually just bang it around for a bit and give it back in a worse condition.
