While primarily a business oriented system, its media playback capabilities are not insignificant. It lacks convenient media playback buttons, but media playback software provides soft buttons to this end, anyhow.

LG Electronics is known for its penchant for combining functionality with style. This notebook is no exception – its almost pearl-white finish invariably turns heads. It also doesn’t hurt that the screen is so large!

Upon unfolding this notebook, we didn’t immediately notice something that always excites us when we find it – the NUM pad. This is quite rare in notebook PCs, and this is often a factor contributing to the perception that notebooks are less functional than desktop systems. Which is why we are always so happy to see a NUM-pad on such a system. It also means that the overall size of the unit is somewhat larger, resulting in a larger screen – never a bad thing.

Unfortunately, however, some keys had to be compressed to accommodate everything, and one of those chosen for this shrinking would not be our first choice – the full-stop.

Why is this such a poor choice? Because almost everyone, these days, finds it necessary to enter URLs or e-mail addresses on a daily or almost daily basis, making the full-stop key more often used than, say, the comma, which would have made a better choice. (Also, when typing out text, the comma is used rather less – almost every sentence ends in a full-stop, but not every sentence contains a comma).

Despite the large screen, this model is definitely designed primarily with business applications in mind. This becomes apparent when one examines the shortcut keys at the top of the keyboard – these include e-mail, browser and wireless networking, but omit any sort of media playback controls.

Nevertheless, this does not mean that the system is unsuited to enjoying media – the built-in speakers are reasonable (though, understand that, as notebook, speakers, they do not deliver any sort of bass), and the output ports cater not only to VGA and stereo headphones, but also S -Video and Line-Out.

Furthermore, video-conferencing and the like can be enjoyed, as a webcam is mounted above the display, and a microphone at the front.

The specifications are good for any sort of business application, with an Intel Core2 Duo 2GHz processor, a gigabyte of R AM, and 100GB hard drive. The graphics are provided by Mobile Intel 965 Express, so this is certainly no gaming rig (though it will play older games without a problem.)

The system ships with Windows Vista pre-loaded, and it runs beautifully.

Something that really impressed us with this unit is its battery life. Even on the “High Performance” power plan, we were getting in excess of two hours’ of average processing. When playing back videos or listening to music, this dropped to just under half for the former, and just over half for the latter. Also, unlike some notebooks we have experienced, when this model is put into standby mode, it consumes extremely little power, and can stay in this state for a very long time indeed (several days, at least.)

It also generates very little heat in this state (and comparatively little heat when fully powered), so it can be kept in a carry-bag while on standby without any concern about it overheating.
