So guys, I decided to bite the bullet and buy a replacement phone for my Swift,

a LG G3 G855

first impressions, a bit bigger than my Swift, and curved more, and buttons are placed in a strange spot,
next to the camera, rather than on the sides.

had the phone for a few days and a couple of things are apparent,
firstly for a 6 year old phone, lots of threads on XDA on it,
even lineage OS and CRdroid ROMS for it, which is astonishing considering how old it is.
even android 10 for such an old phone, how is that even possible?

secondly, and I think Im afflicted with it,
poorly designed and specced CPU heat shield and thermal dissapation.

this phone keeps rebooting and freezing on the stock ROM,
I mean this is ridiculous!!! cant even update google play apps halfway through and it reboots or simply eats most of the NEW battery.
and then shuts down.

who designed this POS?
found lots of youtubes with homebrew solutions of thermal paste and other weird heat shield things.

thought to ask here, and local solutions people know of? take it in and ask for some cellphone place to put thermal paste on the SOC?

or is this why it was suspiciously so cheap for a 2014 flagship phone, its absolute garbage?

does LG-SA know about it? and offers a fix for it?

anybody out there with a LG g3 and how has it held up? and how does one get it to be more reliable?

It's a six year old phone, LG won't care. I've got the G4 which wasn't much better to he honest. Though it's been my son's go to phone for two years.

LG G2 was the best phone I ever owned.

LG G3 was a mistake.

LG G4 was the spawn of that mistake.

I am currently typing this on a 5 year old LG G4 with screen burn in, reboots and typing random stuff.... Lol!

But other than those small things it is still going strong.

How much did you waste on that Ancient G3?

The wife had a G3 and had zero issues with it, probably just lucky.. this was passed onto the MIL after two years who used it problem free for another 3 years..

Never did anything to it.. no rooting, other ROMs or batter replacement..

I have a LG G3, works fine, always has, no problems ever. I have the dual sim version (LG-D858HK).

It is now my backup phone.

I have replaced the battery.

I had a G3... same problems mentioned above.
When I got it, it was fine. but down the road.. eish.
Especially when you need to use Google Maps, its display got exceptionally hot. (Display got hot due to the prolonged on-time of the IPS. IDK hows the G5 handling that)
I still have it in a drawer somewhere.
Battery died within 2 years, replacements could not provide enough current for the phone. Currently, I bought a Duracell for it, but was 6-7 months ago, with a stock ROM. Still want to load LineageOS, and be done with it.

TL;DR It was a bad phone after all.
So, do not buy any LG phones, as they have a common problem of overheating (erm, display) etc.

I think rooting the thing maybe, and throttle the CPU.
I was running mine bone stock Android M, which I had to get through LGUP. (No freaking OTA) and the apps on Lollipop crashed regularly.
When I got mine, it was running KitKat, upgraded to Lollipop the same day. Then after 3! years, upgraded to Android M.

The SDCard slot died early on...

The G3 was one of the best phones I've ever used.

I also had the same issues where the device would just reboot and go crazy hot,, this was fixed when I installed a custom from called blisspop, it was a certain version that fixed the battery draining and heat problems

So far loaded crdroid of android 10
It works, but screen constantly blacks out randomly
Have the temp constantly displayed, and it can fluctuate randomly from 30 to 70 in an instant.

What I wanted to know, is has anybody here tried the homebrew methods like baking the motherboard in a oven,

Or using thermal paste on the SoC

Or anything else really?

Really tempted to just return this phone and get something else, (suggestions?)

Still got my G3 (laying in a cupboard somewhere), never really had issues with it till I decided to buy a generic replacement battery.
Then it started doing random reboots. Swapped out the generic battery for new original , problem solved itself.

Will Rom it someday. Easily one of the best phones I have used.

Far better device and far newer

I had LG G4 x 2, motherboard replaced twice, then a G5 a warranty replacement on the previous G4. G5 screenburn, but otherwise a great phone. Then a G6 was OK. The main reason for me getting an LG was the wide-angle lens and the main reason for moving from LG was, LG South Africa.

So I managed to get a working rom,
Lineage 17.1

Seems to work for now, but everybody telling me LG phones are very weak.

Usually conk out after 2 years, due to the heat problems,

seems they built to last the length of the cell contract and then die a quiet death.

A true disposable smartphone.

Anybody here experience that?

Nope, see above..

I still have a G2 as my second phone and it's still in mint condition :D

Couple of years ago it started pressing random buttons by itself but one day it just stopped and is working fine again now. I still use it sometimes.

The G4 is an absolute POS phone. The amount of issues I and others have had with this phone...Good lord.
It's the reason why I've never touched an LG phone since.
