LG V20

You want mid range? Get a Sony, they make the best mid rangers. Heck, if you can, get your hands on a Xperia Z5 or Xperia X Performance, they are older High Ends, but are well up to par with the latest and greatest in terms of performance, battery life, camera and updates.

The Z5 is a fukking terrible phone. I won't get sony. Terrible battery life and camera.

If you want mid range, get the samsung A-series phones

That is quite sad, I thought you were enjoying yours.

The Xperia X Performance or XZ may be the way to go, if Sony are not overpricing them.

Okay, went to CellC, Vodacom and Telkom to look at the phones in store.

The J5 literally had screen burn in. Spokesperson tried to tell me it was due to it being in retail mode.
Then proceeded to look at the Sony Xperia X and XA and Z compact, why do they lag so badly when opening apps?
The Samsung A3/A5 were both with extremely yellow tinges to the screen, is this on purpose or something?
Being annoyed, I even looked at the LG Stylus 2, even with it being so much cheaper than the A5/J5 it seems to operate just as smoothly, though it's a bit large and I'd never use the stylus.
Also had a look at the LG V20 in Vodacom's store, wow that thing is smooth, just couldn't find the setting to add an app drawer, did they not provide it in an update like the G5?

I'm probably just going to wait till maybe March or so, see if anything else comes out.

Were all these Display units?

You must remember Display units run a Demo in the background and are bogged down heavily by all the crap other people did with them.

They also tend to display the same thing the whole time, 24/7, day in and day out, so burn in is bound to happen.

Yeah, that may be best, wait and see what comes at MWC in Feb

Talked to LG South Africa, they linked me to a page talking about the K series being released mid-jan.
From this site: http://www.fonearena.com/blog/20655...x-power-2-x-calibur-and-stylus-3-surface.html
Code:
    LG K3 2017 — 4.5-inch, 5MP rear and 2MP front-facing cams, 2100mAh battery
    LG K4 2017 — 4.7-inch, 8MP rear and 5MP front-facing cams, 2500mAh battery
    LG K8 2017 — 5.0-inch HD display, 13MP rear and 5MP front-facing cams, 2500mAh battery
    LG K10 2017 — 5.3-inch HD display, 2.5D glass on front and back, 5MP wide-angle, front-facing selfie cam, fingerprint reader, rear-mounted buttons
    LG X power 2 — 5.5-inch HD display, 4500mAh battery, 13MP rear and wide-angle 5MP front-facing selfie cams
    LG X calibur — water/dust resistant (IP68), military-standard durability, 4100mAh battery
LG Stylus 3 (Stylo 3 plus) — 5.7-inch, 32GB ROM, digital pen, 13MP rear and 5MP front-facing cams, front and rear flashes, 3200mAh battery, fingerprint reader, rear-mounted buttons
I'm interested in the K8 and K10, wished they'd make the K10 into the K8, I like the 5.0" screen size the most. Can hopefully expect them in South Africa in February, if not I'll move to a different manufacturer. (EDIT: notice they're 720p not 1080p, mhm.)

Sorry for going off-topic.
They're bringing a weaker version of the LG V20's camera to the LG X Power 2 though, which should be interesting. The LG X Calibur could be interesting for those who drop their phones, like the CATs.

I'm currently considering getting the V20. Of all the phones out there this one appeals to me most.
I've been a Samsung user for 6 or more years and I'm still rocking a Note II with cracked screen and everything. :)

Just wanted to check something before I go an get an upgrade.

Are current V20 owners aware of the issue with the camera lens glass cover cracking?
Has anyone had this break yet?
Several reports indicate to leave the protective cover on the glass as the thing sort of spontaneously cracks if scratched (something about improper annealing of the glass).

See from 2:30 in following video:

I have to admit, going from AMOLED, even if only on a NOTE II, to IPS might be an adjustment. But right now I'm not seeing anything in the 5.5"+ size that's appealing. I can't see around corners, it's the one super power I don't have, so the S7 Edge is not for me. Other AMOLED devices short change on storage or resolution. But, frankly, I think I'm Samsung'd out a bit. Wanting to try something different.

Still happy with mine. No issues with the camera glass cover, maybe it only affected a specific batch?
Only pain is the lack of locally available covers. Have not checked recently whether Vodacom received stock.

Also still very happy with phone.

Vodacom has covers but at R699 a bit much. I got mine from Amazon.

I made the leap. As of yesterday I'm on this LG V20 bandwagon. :) And it's fantastic.
Honestly, there wasn't anything from the other camps that interested me. I almost opted for a P9, but spotted the screen had some serious patchiness to it.

Got the LG 360 camera as well. Interesting toy, but I doubt I'm going to use it. What do these sell for these days? Might pop it on gumtree. The 2 cameras aren't balanced as one records a warm tone and the other is much colder which makes the point of stitching very obvious.

And another thing... the sound! :) Stereo separation itself is incredible. I still have an old ipod with line-out mod and my previous phone which I sometimes ran through a small headphone amp. Neither sounded this good, with or without the amp.

Now to make the shopping list. Can't find a case that I'd be happy with. I might just try dbrand skins and Insurance Case for protection.

Scroll a bit back and see the case I got... it's freakin' awesome, and ordered it from amazon

Yes, the Spigen one. I might order that Spigen and the Bear Motion case. The Bear Motion seems similar to the Ringke Slim I had on my Samsung. It doesn't cover as well, but more for grip. Really do prefer minimal cases. I still want to order the skin, though.

Damn bummer there's hardly any local in-store stuff for this device.

So I pretty much spent the entire day on Amazon picking out LG V20 stuff.
Want a case, looked at screen protectors (both glass and PET/TPU), longer USB C cables, etc, etc.
And here's my shopping cart:

Lol! :D Found nothing I wanted or those that I did (like Belkin cables) don't ship here.

So I ordered dbrand matte black skins instead of going with a case. No idea how long it will take to arrive.

Looking for screen protector, but the curves on the phone screen top/bottom edges seems to be limiting the available options. Think the best is to get the Nillkin glass protector.

What screen protectors are people using on their V20? I'm not removing the one supplied with the phone for the moment.

Still got the one that the phone shipped with on.
