Hi,

My wife's car is licensed in Pretoria, but we work in Midrand/Edenvale. We never received the notice. Can one get the renewal done at a Ekurhuleni/Midrand licensing office and what would be required?

Fill in a green form. Done. You should be able to do it at a post office as well.

I think I last needed the original registration certificate.

And then, as with ALL goverment departments the following is also a good idea.
Copy of ID
Black Pen
Cash

When we moved from the North West to Gauteng a while back, I used a licence renewal service at the Engen garage. Paid a exorbitant fee, over and above the licence fee but what I did get, much to my surprise, was a renewal and a GP licence plate number :D.

The post office is open on Saturday's. You can do it there.

I removed the car licence disk from my windshield, walked into my local post office and asked them to renew it - no problems, in and out in a few minutes.

Will do this today, thanks

Mine came super late.... came like 2 weeks before it was due.

It expired end of August. Got a bit of a fright getting off at Linksfield ave, Edenvale with cops pulling people off...

AFAIK You have 21 days after it expires to do the renewal. After 21 days you'll pay a penalty, or get a fine if you are stopped by a traffic cop.

Uhm... that's 8 weeks ago.... why didn't you start finding out 12 weeks ago already?

This.

You can renew at the post office - just check if you closest post office offers the service - you can check on the sapo website.

No no no!!!

Others have been fined for not displaying valid disc...

Write down your chassis and reg numbers, ID book and cash...

Admin is not my strongest point ;)

Last year my father went to go renew his license, but the license department was striking and as a result he went home, forgot about it. 3 months later he got stopped at a random road block and [his colleague was with him] pleaded to the Metro to let them go, can't remember what they said. Thankfully they let him go, because an outstanding license like that required that they impound his car for 3 months.

Edit... oh wait, of course. It was renewed, but due to the strikes he couldn't go pick it up.

You can always scan a copy, Photoshop a 3 into a 4 and use it temporarily whilst you get around to the actual renewal...

This and you need to do a roadworthy test once its not renewed within time frames
