Does anybody here care what their fellow heroes do after their playing days?
I'm asking this because I was watching SS3 the other day and there was an interview with a former Man City player (I forgot his name) and he is now a truck driver collecting garbage. It was a sad thing to see.
We have this situation here in SA (or everywhere in the world) where a player thinks they’ll play soccer the rest of their lives and forget to have some backup by means of education or something and end up like hobos. I also find it sad that after 35 (if you are lucky), your life (career) is basically over. I mean 35 is when you probably settle in your job, start a family, and stuff.
I know if Rooney was to retire now, he’d probably buy the whole of Manchester, the city. We all know not every player will be a coach, run a successful development team, or even be a commentator or something.
Does any know what ex-players like (randomly) Mark Overmars, Poyet, or Andre Flo are doing now?
