Life is short

We had a guy start working with us at my previous company, hell of a nice guy. Was with us about 6 months, he broke down and pulled over, it was very foggy and as he opened the door and climbed out a truck took him out. Girlfriend said he was there one second and next just heard bang and he says gone and the car was moving.

My husband died a looooooooooong time ago.

He and his sister went for a walk in the forest. He told her he felt dizzy and she pointed to a bench a few steps away suggesting they sit down for a few minutes. She went ahead and sat down.

When she looked back he had collapsed and was dead. It was a wonderful way for him to go but a huge shock for the family.

Still, I preferred the shock of hearing about my husband to watching my Dad waste away as lung cancer reduced a proud, tall, well built man to a skeleton who could barely walk - that was sad.

Yep, life is short, with no guarantees. Death comes fast for anyone. No matter how fit you are. No matter how healthy you eat. No matter how perfect your health is. One thing is for sure, and this held true throughout the ages, the only two things that is a guarantee is death and taxes.

I left school in 1965. Since then there have been about 5 school reunions. Of the 110 boys who matriculated, 33 live overseas. Of the 77 boys left over, 51 of these were still in Cape Town in 1995, 10 had already died

At the last reunion in 2020, there are now 14 of us and this year a further 3 died. Most of us are between 74 and 76. No-one died from Covid as far as we know

One boy who became a good friend was the naughtiest of them all, got sent to the Head Master's office so frequently that he almost became a fixture. He got 2 girls pregnant by 19 but became a successful mechanical engineer and worked at the Ford plant for 35 years

Meet my granny
Born 1865, was never taught to read and write (was unnecessary to teach girls, they said)
In 1943 she was working at an army boot factory in Sheffield when the office building got a direct hit from a bomb, killing everyone
She took over running the factory with her friend until 1950, when ICI bought it (date of picture)
She died in 1969, aged 103
Never sick one day in her life
Her motto - life is a rum 'un (from Yorkshire)

I am presiding over a funeral this morning for the mother of one of my closest childhood friends. She was a little over 60. Died due to a ruptured gall bladder and the shock that induced before they could operate. Very sudden and heartbreaking. Take care of those you love people, you never know how long you have.

No stories of young people passing away

Feelsgoodman

*edit*

Although I personally almost died at 19 due to a heart complication

Plan is to start working while traveling with the SO. Life is short, so you'd be damned to think Ill be spending my days sitting in my home office...

life is indeed short, but the choices you make in the past determine your future,
like I mentioned about my friend, maybe 2 or so years older than me, strong like an ox,
covid finishes him off,

does that make me paranoid ill get covid? nope... I've probably had it multiple times already,
yes feel a bit weird, you get a stronger than usual flu, and then lo and behold you pull out of it,
becuse you took care of your immune system in the past, unlike my friend who probably had HIV

and despite his strength succumbed to something he could have fought of easily earlier in life.

Yesterday I visited with a friend and his wife.

Him and I were sitting in his lounge sipping on a beer, when we suddenly heard a thud from the kitchen. We rushed and found her knocked out cold on the floor. We rushed her to hospital and she went straight to the ICU. I was too shocked to continue drinking so asked him to drop me at home.

He called me a few minutes ago, sobbing. He just came back from the hospital.

She's brain dead. Apparently suffered a massive stroke.

I guess I'm more creating this thread out of shock. Less than 24 hours ago I was still making jokes with her. I'm not sure about her medical history, but she looked in good health (slightly overweight though). She was 45
You should actually read this until the lightbulb in your head switches on...
