Life span for a cell phone

What is the average life span for a phone? My friend says about 2 years but I got a phone sitting at home which I have had since 1998 or so and still going strong. I also had a brick sitting at home all it needs is a new battery. What is your hyp opinion
 
My SE T610 is about 3 years old, very scratched and battered, scoll gives me problems now and then. Going to get a newer phone this year.
 
It can still last longer than 2 years though cant it? I wanna get the samsung E370 on Virgin as its about R400 cheaper than MTN and I can still use my MTN sim card inside it as the guy at virgin store said the phone is not net work locked.
 
I've got several phones older than two years that are 100%. Remember if you get a phone on one network to use exclusively on another network the warranty might be adversely affected.
 
I gave my mother my 6110 a few years back and it's still going with the original battery pack.
I'm using a 6210 which is nearly 7 years old now (also with original battery) and I'm not going to change it till it dies.
My 6210 with it's 7 year old battery still gives me 1 week of standby time and I can't stand these new fangled phones that you have to leave almost permanently plugged into a charger.

Also I don't care for all the features in these new phones that drain the battery power - if I need a flashlight I'll buy one - I don't need a battery eating QVGA screen on a cell phone to help me find my way to the bathroom.
All I need and want is SMS + voice.
 
We still have a really old cell which we have had for I dont even know how long now. At the one where you have to pull the ariel out. I will try take a pic. All that is really wrong with it is the battery but that can be replaced I am sure. Haha.
 
Erricson 688 8 years old one new battery still in use occationaly, Ericsson T28 5 years old with new battery, Nokia 6610 3 years old still no probs al the rest are under 2 years old but the motorola V3X might end up under a truck soon :|
 
We still have a Nokia 5110, which is now over 7 years old. Works practically like new and it has never had its battery or any other part replaced. In my opinion, it is one of the most durable and revolutionary cellphones ever made. On full charge, the battery will still last up to 48 hours, which is more than I can say for my last two phones.

Both my 2 year old Nokia 6610 (which now belongs to my mother) and my current phone, an i-mate JAM which is barely a year old, have batteries that barely last a day.
 
Phones obviously will last, they not going to self destruct after 2 years although that would be fun if they did!:D

Manufacturers only give a 1 year gaurantee, whilst a SP adds another year.
In terms of technology, I think a lifespan should be 1.5 years. But otherwise they can work forever!!:D

I had a 5210 that I kept for 2 years. It survived 2 bike crashes, and I still gave it to my brother... from whom it was stolen. :mad:

Had a 5100 after that. I'm rough on my phones. Drop-kicked it across a parking lot and Centurion mall, just to demonstrate to friends why I had such a hideous phone. :D Kept it for about a year and a half, no problems. Gave it to a friend when I went on contract at the beginning of last year, and he's still using it.

Where can I find another phone that tough? The only tough Nokia I could find had a camera, and wasn't really as tough anyway. :(
 
6310i is a rock of a phone. 5 years and going strong.

6230 that I am still currently using 2.5 years later started packing up after a year, POS...

awaiting my new handset :(

I replace and recycle my phones every 6 - 9 months. Never had a problem.

I have had 4 simultaneous contracts from MTN and VC, nicely spaced out so I do not get two phones within 6 months.

Currently operating with E61, N70 and D 700.
