Good afternoon

I need help retrenchment is looming where I'm working, I need to understand this thing last in first out. I understand that who ever is hired last is the first one out. So what if you been in the company, for a while and recently got promotion.

How will that work because you will be the last one in that department. Will the long service count in your favor or what?.

Just a general rule if your role is disposable enough. If you have a scarce skill which is important in the functioning of the business then you may be safe. Could also be a complete lottery too, so best plan for the worst...

What a horrible position to be in, no job security :(

You can say that again :-(

I think the only thing that will work in my favor is I have been with the, for 8 years I have a very good clean record. The are people who came after me, but they been in that department for a while though.

Last in first out? Meaning an 60 year old who might be retiring soon may remain while a young person may be retrenched? Did the company say they were going to use this method?

Nope they didn't say which method they going to use. Unfortunately we are all young in that department late 20s and mid 20s. So don't see anyone wanting to leave.

Ok I see, don't stress too much on things that you don't have control over, keep s positive attitude and look fir something else in the meanwhile. Good luck to those who will be affected, we are all living on borrowed times when it comes to jobs nowadays.
