hello all

am searching for a light work bakkie.
My choices are

vw caddy
nissan 1400
other type of light bakkie

which bakkie would you reccomend, are there many drawbacks to choosing these instead of a decent full ton bakkie.

What happens if you exceed the bakkie's 500kg limit?

Is it advisable to lift the suspension and / or add bigger wheels to get better ground clearance?

I heard diesel bakkies doesnt overheat as easily as petrol when doing rough work while the vehicle is stationary.

Are there any manufacturing problems on some of these light bakkies?

i have R30 000 available but would be willing to take out a loan of up to 15k if it would help me to afford a newer model with less hassles :)

second hand Isuzu 2.5 !!! they dont die :P and for 30k u should be able to get a good one. Yes its full ton bakkie

This is true and u get better fuel economy

wtf, why would the engine be doing rough work while stationery?
 
Have a look at the fiat strada 1.6 elx , it goes like a bomb on the highway, elx has all your extras, aircon electric windows power steering abs, and most importantly in the half ton class it's the only one that has a load capacity of 750 kg if I'm not mistaken.

I would take a old datsun 1400 over that :D

Nissan NP 200 has an 800kg payload. However they only came out in 2009, so I highly doubt you can get one at that price.

Maybe a Corsa B bakkie. They are heavy on petrol though. You could also look at an old Bantam.

Just small jobs here and there (Moves, garbage and other small projects)

But I might want go off the road for 50 metres max at some places.

What if I am asked to help someone tow his vehicle out of the mud?

Travelling slowly (10-20km/h) on dirt roads, with a heavy load and / or trailer at the back.
I kind of consider 10km/h as being stationary.
