Hi

My first router came with a snazzy psu with a built in lightining protection for the telephone line at least, not sure if it protects the power as well.

I have a new router and it just came with a transformer :-(

Where can i get a good quality lightining protection unit for my adsl part of the telephone line ?

I would recommend looking around at UPS's , many decent UPS's come with RJ11 in/out ports.
UPS's cost only a little bit more than a surge protector, and you get a whole load of extra stuff included, for when ESKOM decides to drop power or give you a few spikes or brownies ... ( R350 + )
OR
If you look around you can find the surge protectors with a single socket and RJ11 in/outs, they nothing special but probably do the job your last routers surge protector did ( price R100 - R200 )

Hi,

Try Stax for a surge protector. They go for about R100-150. Ive been through about 2 or 3 so far and can vouch for them. I think the brand is called PowerLine or something similarly Power related :P

Hope that helps,

Regards

I've got an APC UPS connected to my server and my ADSL passes thru it.

It is rock solid.

Give ClearLine a call they have a replacement warrentee on the surge protectors. Its top quality stuff I have sites running 1 km of copper cable outside to a pc (serial comms) and its never blown a comm port I have had to replace melted wiring from almost direct lightning strikes. They have consumer ready stuff like multiplugs that are surge protected including a tel line protector and do UTP units to. PowerHouse are the other guys that specialise in surge protection, data filters and power line filters they are rated pretty well but I've never tried there stuff.
