Lightning Damage- Insurance Claim

Hi all,

Wonder if anyone can give me some advice.

A little over 2 weeks ago there was a bad electrical storm in the area (as confirmed by the housesitter) while I was away.
When I returned I found my computer monitor to not be switching on and my graphics card's fans were not working resulting in extreme overheating (there are visible wires that have been burnt). In the mean time I have made a solution to cool my graphics card while I desperately need my pc and have made use of a separate monitor.

Long story short:
I took my monitor into the Samsung repair centre for a quote on lightning damage, but they have returned stating that it is wear and tear damage worth R3000.. I know for a fact that this cannot be true as it was perfectly fine a few days before.

How do I approach a situation like this? Should I take it to another reputable company to quote for lightning damage? Otherwise I cannot claim for lightning damage.

Why don't you contact your broker or insurance co directly and ask them what you need to do?

Edit: I'm assuming you're insured

Sorry yes, I am insured. But in order for me to claim I need a quote on lightning damage, yet as this repair station is stating it isn't lightning damage and rather wear and tear, I cannot claim from insurance. However I do know that this is lightning damage as you can see above, it's not the only thing affected.
 
Last year i claimed for lighting damage, the guys came to my house to check and asses everything.
 
Find another service provider, preferably independent and tell them you need a repair quote for insurance purposes for lighting damaged goods.

Also ask your insurer what process they require for the claim to be processed, they may have preferred​ repairers.

This.

Had my PC at one shop for ages fscking around and took it to another place asking them to just give me a lightning damage report (and a quote for replacement which seems to encourage them) & paid their R150 'diagnostics' fees. There really is no way to detect lightning damage unless you took a direct hit and schite got blown to pieces.
 
Take it to another repairer and keep the invoice if charged. You can claim for the quote if charged for.

Yes, just call them and see what the process is.

I also tried to get quotes ,ect, was a waste of time ....once i called them they came the next day and checked everything, had a few corrupt hard drives that they had to take with them , and i went to collect them after a week.
 
The underlying moral behind all of this? DO NOT leave home even for a short while in the lightning season without disconnecting everything that is really important to you! yes it is a schlep.
 
Thank guys, going to take everything to local pc shop and hope for the best :) Insurance company said they only require a quote, but it can be from any provider, so let's where it goes from here.

Weird enough is that nothing else seemed to get hit, usually it's the modem first and then it runs through my Ethernet... tv is making some lovely sounds, but I'll keep an eye on that ;)
